Side note: LOL @ U.S.-style race classifications

(Not like our attitudes were so much more advanced, we have just never had much need to classify people that way. Still, the notion of "Latins" as a separate race rather than a culture-based ethnicity is so hilarious.)

I hear that China has a lot of Anti-Aircraft guns... could just be a rumor though, and seeing as how they're China-quality....

And hell, for all the technology that the US had in the Vietnam War, they failed to fight war effectively against the Communist forces there.

Dunno much about hip-hop in general, but I'm willing to hazard an educated guess. Epik High from South Korea seems to be pretty solid in the Asian Hip-Hop scene.

Ofcourse, i'm proud of my roots and long for the days i'll be spending there.
Currently studying Japanese and Korean, as Asian languages intrigue me.
Other than that, Asia rawks!

Well, I'm not so sure about Korean Hiphop (only group i like is Epik High), but a couple of good Chinese Hiphop acts includes:
- Mountain Brothers (disbanded D

- Edison Chen (not my cup of tea)
- LMF (disbanded)
- Ghost Style

A couple of Japanese Hiphop acts i like are:
- Teriyaki Boys
- Ketsumeishi
- Home Made Kazoku
- Bennie K
- Rhymester
- King Ghydra
(last 2 some older groups, with the latter being disband)
CurrentlyJ-Rap is more popular and well known through-out the world.
But do not underestimate C-Rap

I assume you're probably living in a Caucasian-dominated region on the globe. Do you experience any racial tension where you live?

Overall, yes. Increased more thanks to the Asian history course I took last semester, and let's just say it's the first history class ever where I haven't felt like dozing off

Then again, I do know of Vietnamese military victories against steep odds and overwhelmingly superior forces... hey, maybe I'm a far-flung descendant of the legendary strategists. Doesn't hurt to dream once in a while.

Caucasian dominated..... I dunno, too many people of Hispanic origin out and about spitting in the face of that

I kid, I kid. For the most part yes, they do dominate somewhat, but not to the degree of other places. As for racial tension, it seems to be quite lax given the shitstorm of about only 40 years ago [Vietnam War, again]. Still though, I do know there are a few nuts out there that still cling to their own prejudices... meh. Least it ain't as bad as other places in history.

I am curious to hear about the racial prejudice thing. Us Caucasians (

) over here have never been in a war against an East Asian nation, as far as I know, so our attitudes are based on different things. Back in the 80s, when Finland had a very low percentage of immigrants, the most prominent refugee group settling in the country were the Vietnamese.

Well, i live in The Netherlands, so it's Caucasian-dominated.
However, Holland is a multicultural country, but even so there isn't much racial tension.
Ofcourse there is, but most people tend to either keep it minimal or just simply ignore it.

I myself haven't faced many racial comments, but when i do i try to be the more mature one, but ofcourse when it'll get out of hand, i'll need to step up.
Never happened though.

@Katchan: you're welcome, fortunately i like Asian Hiphop.

Yeah I know there's quite the little pocket of Scandinavian-planted Vietnamese there. Now that I think about it, one just so happens to be a bit of a hip-hop star, too

I think the little bits of Caucasian prejudice here were, again, prompted by the Vietnam War 40ish years back. From what little I knew about that era in US history, the media really vilified both the Viet Cong for being tough buggers to hunt down, and the US soldiers for mowing down entire villages in a desperate effort to stamp out said VC soldiers and loyalists.

Then of course, since America was the melting pot of nations, it'd be only natural for a great number to end up in these lands... and even though most of the anti-Asian sentiment has died off, bits and pieces of it still linger on.

And let's not forget about the prime bit of anti-Asian sentiment. Just ask the poor Japanese who suffered in the internment camps during World War II. [Heck, the community I live in at present was supposed to have been a hugely Japanese populated area, but the internment changed that one permanently.

Because sadly enough, the first mental image they have is that Manga are just comics, Anime = cartoons, Asia Music = shit you don't even understand.
And secondly, there are otakutards who are so addicted and acts/looks so nerdy, that they are frowned upon.

And those together and you have a discriminating stereotype image of some who likes anime/manga/Asian Music whilest he or she is not Oriental
