    Kamen Rider Series

Been a while since I've posted, and I know this is an anime forum, but I wonder if anyone else watches Tokusatsu, and in particular any of the various Kamen Rider Series?

For those unsure of which I speak, the Kamen Rider (Masked Rider) series is very similar to the Super Sentai series (which has had series re-purposed for the west as the various Power Ranger series) however instead of featuring a team mainly focus on a solitary Rider and the various rival or friendly Riders they encounter.

The series has a whole has been airing in Japan since 1971 (taking a 4-year break in '75, a 6 yeah break from '81 and an 11 year break from the '88-89 series Kamen Rider Black RX, which some people might know as the basis for the terrible Saban's Masked Rider series in 1996) However since 2000 the show has ran almost constantly (bar a week or two here or there) ever since with one series starting usually mid January and the next series featuring a different cast of characters, Riders and a whole new plot and universe beginning the week after.

Yeah, this is primarily a series for children (as it airs at 7:30 am on a Sunday morning) but don't let that put you off, there is occasionally some quite dark stuff in there. It also goes completely insane in some series for a few episodes (Cooking battles and make-up battles were the rage in the 2006 series Kamen Rider Kabuto for example)

I would highly recommend watching some as it has been one of the best decisions I have made in ages, I'm enjoying it so much, and If you do want to start I recommend it in the same way I did. Kamen Rider Kabuto (2006/7) Kamen Rider Den-O (2007/8 My personal favourite series as well as seemingly the people who make it as these guys are referenced almost everywhere now as well has having a 5th movie in the works 9Pretty big deal seeing as most of the other shows have gotten one maybe 2 films max)
Kamen Rider Kiva (2008/9) and seeing which series you fancy after that. They are all up on YouTube as far as I know, and the group TV-Nihon subs them as well as various other things.

Please watch, Enjoy and chat ^_^

(Also don't get me started on Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, it's a very poor substitute for the original Kamen Rider Ryuki )

Jay! Nice to see you! I have some Kamen Rider downloaded, but I haven't gotten the chance to watch it yet. I DO enjoy reading up on Super Sentai series, but I haven't gotten any yet. Mostly because I haven't found any that I like that have been subbed yet. And well, I don't like the whole guessing what they're saying bit. I REALLY wanted to see Zyuranger (which Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was based on), but TV-Nihon are jerkfaces and will never finish it and get all pissy if any other subbing group wants to sub it.

btw, join us on irc. irc.deslink.com in #animeb

Silver was just talking about you the other day. He misses you.

Yeah, I've been interested in checking out some of the Sentai series, but I'm too in love with Kamen Rider at the minute to get around to it.

Hmmm, TV-Nihon do seems a bit crap at doing some of the older stuff, saying they are waiting on DVDs. But they ARE pretty good at getting the recent stuff out on time. So if you try a current series then chances are they will have them done without much delay, plus they have completed like 5 Sentai series and 5 Kamen Rider series (two others have finished but there are still movies to be released and stuff)

Yeah, I'll try and pop round the irc, it has been a while.

I like Tokusatsu series! Here in Brazil, many Toei TV tokusatsu series were very successful among kids and teenagers. From 1986 and 1999, the defunct TV Manchete (Rio de Janeiro) broadcast many Toei series, like Jaspion, Changeman (ok, It's not a tokusatsu), Jiraiya, Jiban ("Japanese copy of Robocop"), Cybercops...

But, Kamen Rider was never broadcast in Brazilian TV... Nowadays, there are only American TV series here...

We covered this stuff a bit in media class in Japan, but the way the teacher presented it made it all so boring! I'd like to just watch some for fun at some point.

I've not been sleeping much this week and with having to be back in work on Monday, I really need to sleep on Sunday, so I'm thinking about just staying up tonight, so I may very well be on tonight.

Either I'm missing a chunk of memory, or you've had a name change. I don't seem to remember you...
