Somebody I know online is playing through Pokemon Emerald, which has inspired me to get out my GBA and finally beat Sapphire. Over the past few days I've been cramming in lots of Poke-play and now I finally have all 8 badges. I'm ready to go in there and beat the Elite Four into a pulpy smear. Actually it probably won't work like that since my team is definitely a lot weaker in this game than my teams in Red and Silver. To be fair though my Silver team was just a bunch of cloned Typhlosions... like everyone else's team was. XD 6 Typhlosions, all level 70+... it was a sight to behold. I'm such a cheater. Game Freak made Ruby & Sapphire too well though, no such cloney luck this time sadly. Kinda makes me want a DS, I hear the Generation V games are coming out in Japan in late 2010 and I haven't even play Diamond/Pearl yet. I'm way behind

Today's hot new hyped album is I'm New Here By Gil Scott-Heron. Gil is a poet/spoken word artist/sometimes singer whose style is often credited with laying down the framework for what would eventually become hip-hop. He also coined the phrase 'The Revolution Will Not Be Televised' in his song of the same name. I don't know much about him to be honest but he seems like kind of a badass and he also seems to be anything but New Here, seeing as how he released his first album almost 40 years ago. So what's he got to say on his new album? Quite a bit it would seem (even though the album is really really short), the lyrics are sharp and the arrangements are unusual. There are electronic tinges that I'm told are new to his music. I give it an 8/10, it's lean and passionate and cool.

Ah. Back in 1991 (or 1992), when I was growing to love hip-hop, the great London DJ Gilles Peterson hosted a jazz rap special for Radiomafia, the Finnish radio channel most of my influences came from at the time. "The Revolution Will Not Be Televised" was one of the tracks featured... And the fact that I still remember this should speak for itself. Thank you, Antmanbee!
