  1. John Terry - England Captain

    The FA have removed the England football captain's armband from John Terry.

    He is due to stand trial in July over racial abuse allegations after an incident with QPR's Anton Ferdinand. In a statement, the FA said Terry would not "captain the England team until the allegations against him are resolved".

    Terry, who lost the captaincy once previously, has entered a plea of not guilty to the charge.

    After my travails with my MacBook last week, I came to the harrowing conclusion that I needed to properly archive my images. If the machine wasn't fixed I'd have struggled a little bit, as I'd have had to pay out for a new Mac to restore to, since the only copy of my extensive image collection (I say extensive, it may not be massive but there's several thousand, at least) was only on a Time Machine backup.

    I hate the thought of backing stuff up, because it means I've got to sort ...

    Scary, isn't it? Facing any length of time without your favourite machine...

    I had my first hardware issue with my MacBook Pro on the 28th December. The screen didn't show anything on booting, but the volume keys were functioning, beeping & chiming away and raising and lowering the volume as they should. Battery took charge and the machine booted without a battery plugged in too. I just had no video output, so I assumed the video card had fizzled.

    Now usually ...

    The Large Hadron Collider at CERN has already produced 100 petabytes of data that needed to be sent out to labs across the world for analysis. Pushing that amount of information over a 56Kbps modem would take some time. So boffins at various universities have had a good stab at breaking the internet speed record.

    88Gbps download? I'll take that
