Hi folks!

Just returned from a 3 day trip to our Leeds office, 2 and a half hours north from where I usually work in London

They wanted to move down the corridor of their current building to a smaller office as the team's got smaller. Fine. Arrange new lines, get up to Leeds, shut everything down, wheel it through the corridor and plug everything in again, all over bar the cabling.

Not at my company!

We turned up (me and one other networking person, cos the server guy wasn't available) at twelve noon on the 28th. No new data line, no power for our server racks and the network cabling for the office was just not sufficient to allow as many people as they wanted, in the layout that they wanted.

Bad start got worse when we were told the cabling couldn't be sorted til the next morning, and the power couldn't be done until the morning of the 30th. To make matters worse, our liaison with our ISP for the data line wasn't in the office and I had to go over the whole order again from scratch. With the move project manager (London) out of the office this week, and my direct manager, and the IT director all out, it was down to the grunts on the ground... as usual.

Long story short, we got sorted. Wednesday was a washout, all we did was move a printer. Thursday afternoon we had most of the services in, and did our scheduled day and a half's work in half a day, finishing gone midnight.

Since we'd only planned staying over on Wednesday night, I only brought one change of clothes and we'd only booked one night in the hotel. So when my tired fingers did the typing for the second hotel booking late on Thursday, I booked the 30th instead of the 29th. Took us an extra ha;f hour to get into the hotel because of this... spanner >_<

Morning of the 30th, power got connected, so we had to shut everything down again and recable from mains power (so the office could work in the morning) and plug it all back in properly.

I think we rescued the move, but I doubt we'll get much in the way of thanks for it
