well, it seems no-one's got anything they wish to share (they're tight) or risk sharing (they're cautious or supportive of copyright holders). I wasn't sure how well providing a platform for direct file sharing would go down, and at the moment it appears, uh, not too well. But I reckon there's hope for it yet. If Yon gets his finger out he could post some stuff, but I'm not aware where our Fastidious friend is (or even came from, for that matter). Perhaps files aren't being downloaded, so he's jacked it in?

Quite likely. This whole affairs smacks rather strongly of not being worth anyone's bother, you know. Wonder how style feels...

It might work for spanish forums, I don't know, apparently it gets lots of traffic. Maybe the english speaking people prefer torrents overall (Spanish subbed anime is harder to find after all)

True, it's hard to find real specialist stuff that would bring in the crowds, and the popular stuff is just too common.

seems to be the case. Advance subbed copies of Strike Witches season 2'd have me downloading, but nothing posted so far has grabbed me. That's more a falt with the shows though, to be honest.

Spanish forums gets good contributions to this sort of thing? Well, in this push it's not worked here

Smart people can find direct downloads easily. This subforum is redundant.

It would be nice if there was some more Funimation stuff on here. They have been removing a lot of animes I want to watch from other sites recently. =(

    Hmm... Direct Download Anime?
Apart from the Upload sites (Megaupload, Rapidshare, yada yada) its pretty hard to host that kind of thing, innit?
Especially with licensing and Cease and Desist letters flying about...

Perhaps "Direct Download" in general is too specific? Perhaps this would be more successful if torrent links and streaming links were included as well in this sort of forum?

I think a request thread would be helpful, though.

    Also, here's an idea...
What about hosting DCC bots on IRC for people to be able to come on and download?
Not as easy as Direct Downloading, surely, but its easier to be able to do without getting into legal trubbles.

Torrent links? They'd have to be pretty damn rare torrents to warrant posting on here.

I'm liking the DCC idea best, of course... =P

Well, yeah, its usually easy to find torrents. But you know, sheeple aren't always the brightest.
So rounding things up in one easy place for the masses of here might be good...?

it was worth a go though, wasn't it? There's some relevant stuff to download, at least, plus one or two shows that some of us might not have previously considered. At least until those direct links die, the place had a purpose

It'd be hard for us to run a distribution bot, wouldn't it? You'd have to have a server running all the time and a bit of a hefty line to cope, I reckon. The few distribution bots I've encountered have been for specific fansubbing groups and they're actually contributing to the content, rather than snatching it from the "official" site and re-upping it.
