As much as I liked Eva. I still think it was abit over exaggerated when people say its the greatest anime of all time. Does anyone agree? or disagree?
I am so damn lost. @_@ I keep disappearing cause I'm busy doing something and BOOM totally confusion when I come back. Oh lordy
i don't think its the greatest anime of all time but its a good anime.

Spoiler
nahhh its def. overrated - a great show overall, but not the best of all time. Im guessing it got all its hype because it was the first of its kind in the aspects of characters, mecha design etc.
well mecha design it isnt not really anyways. In my opinon most of those shows use mecha that look more like the design of voltron or power rangers then eva. So its not as if it were the first of its kind. The characters well they were unique personality wise ect, but definitely not the first to have characters like them.

In my honest opinion it is only worth watching episodes 1-16 or if you want to skip nearly all the early angst parts go from. 8-11 and the 5 minute alternate universe bit on the last episode. Though that fact that I watched the whole thing when I was 7 years old is most likely is the reason why I like those espisodes in particular, is they are rather liight hearted compared to the rest of the anime.
So, thanks to the ingenious new system of subforums etc around here I found this Evangelion part of the forum, which I've never seen before... And seeing I'm quite a fan of NGE I though i'd check it out, despite seeing it's pretty much as dead as Kaworu...
I watched the first episode of Eva some time ago, but didn't like it much and therefore dropped it. Last summer I was pretty bored though, so I though I should give it a second chance. I really don't think I've made such a good decision in a long, long while... The series is great, I've watched the anime and read vol 1-6 of the manga, and it is among the very best anime/manga I've ever laid hands on O.o The fact that it's a mecha made me pretty suspicious in the beginning, but it doesn't matter at all, because the rest is so very, very brilliantly and astonishing good!
Conclusion - one of the best anime ever, no animefan should skip this one.
...and a hopeful new year!
Watched it and thought it sucked. The only thing I liked about it was that it gave birth to the Doujinshi Re-Take.
Frankly, GSD, I don't think much of your taste in anime
I really must get the manga. My local shop back home never seemed to have volumes 1 or 2 on sale though.
Meh, I'll get it in Japanese at some point.

The rest I found in a library, and I think they've got the rest as well so I'm thinking about reading them... It's currently at 11 volumes, methinks. It's pretty much the same as the anime. the mecha battles might get a little too much at times, so I sometimes just flip through them though. I find it a little confusing when they're supposed to show the movement of giant robots and then zoom in and then I really don't get what's going on
Japanese manga sounds sweet, Åsna. Not sure if the original one has furigana or not, though... And I for some reason suspect NGE to contain a lot of rather nasty kanji...

though I will agree Shinji was a whining, annoying bitch for most of the time I really don't think it had any negative effect on the series...
yes, when I look in the English translation it's already full of filthy onomatopoeia in katakana, and I guess the speech will also include quite the number of funny names etc...
I do agree manga is by far a more fun way of learning kanji than just cramming it. I sometimes doubt how effective it is, though...

You often don't learn the most useful ones that way, yes.
And the thing about Shinji: it's obvious he's whiny for a reason (I don't think he is particularly whiny. I know I'd be a lot worse in his situation anyway). It all benefits the series.
If you look at Eva in terms of character breakdowns, you're quite obviously missing the point.

You seeeeeriously missed the point, didn't you?
It's not a shounen series like that. The character isn't meant to develop into a better, stronger person by the end of it.
Now that would be corny.

No, in real life people have severe mental difficulties, and frequently break down into an inconsolable mess, finding themselves shunned by society, homeless, starving, and dying of hypothermia on the wintery streets.
Not everyone is the same, man.

True there are people who stay unstable but they haven't been pushed to get out of that mindset that they are lost in.
Someone who works in a clinic to help people with mental difficulties should know better, man![]()
