    A New Civilization (TrekXWars X-over)

    Prologue: Part1: The First Meeting
(A/N: There will be some slight discrepancies. Gauged to take place 30 years before episode IV)

Qui-Gon Jinn watched the stars blur by as the Endurance entered hyperspace. The Consular class starship was one of the more widely used ships for the Jed, since at that time, they had no official vessel.

He thought carefully about the mission the council had given them both. His new, young padawan, Obi-wan Kenobi, were being sent to Manaan, in the hopes of settling a diplomatic crisis at Ahto City.

The Jedi Council had given him a data disk with a description of the planet, and the current dispute. Pulling it fro his robes, he stole a glance at it, wondering if there would be any way to solve the problem before him.

It seemed a Noval Yzalli had been given a permit from the ruling council of Manaan to build a second city on the surface of Manaans oceans. But just as construction had began, they began to make complaints to the Republic embassy to remove him from the planet, on the basis of “ruining the ocean”. While the republic had investigated his operation to see if there was any cause for this complaint, they hadn’t found any. But the Selkath continued to plague the embassy with messages asking for his removal, and so, they had asked the Jedi to both mediate and investigate the dispute.

He knew this would be his first real test of his padawan’s skills, but he had a strange feeling about the mission. Something he just couldn’t place. He had told Master Yoda of his feelings, but he had said the force would guide him where it wished.

“Perhaps might the force leading you be to Manaan for a purpose yes?” he asked, taking his usual style of talking with his sentences garbled. Qui-Gon had yet to understand why he spoke this way, but had learned from experience to ignore it.

Still, Yodas words had helped him only slightly. He couldn’t help but wonder what was going to happen on this mission. All he knew, was that he would be better prepared for it if he meditated for a while.

Before he could, Captain Kaida Geilvta strolled in, a data pad in her hand. She was a good friend of his, ever since she had helped get him out of a sticky situation on Aargonar. The mission he had been on then had been a bit over his head, but if it weren’t for her kindness and quick thinking, he might not have been standing there that moment.

“Hello Kaida, it’s a pleasure to be on the same ship as you again. I was sorry to hear about the loss of the Jinotaur.” He said coolly, wondering if this visit was personal or mission related.

Smiling slightly, Kaida shook her head, dismissing the subject. “I’m just glad that the whole crew got out alive. But that isn’t why I’m here Qui-Gon.”

Glancing at her curiously, he took the data pad she was now holding out to him. He sped through the information, then put the pad on the table near him. He closed his eyes and thought carefully for a moment, then said

“Yes Kaida, I have no problems with us changing course to aid the Korodan. How long will it take for us to get there?”

Being the captain of the ship, Kaida was the one person onboard past the pilot who could possibly figure the math in her head. After a few seconds, she said “Dropping out of hyperspace and resetting the navicomputer will take about 15 minutes, and it’ll take us about an hour to reach the Korodan.”

Nodding, he soon followed her out of his quarters, in a search of finding his padawan, who he would need to inform that the mission was being put on hold for a moment. They chatted lightly as they neared the bridge, where she continued forward to the Bridge, he turned left to find Obi-wan talking with Selkath diplomat.

The contractor Noval Yzalli needs to understand that the Ruling Council is merely worried about the ocean, and that they are simply over exaggerating the problem.” Clph Lonarcch was saying to Obi-Wan as Qui-Gon was entering. Obi-Wan looked ready to continue, but then he noticed Master Qui-Gon leaning against one of the walls, listening intently to their conversation. Clph nodded to both of them and left, saying that they could continue their discussion later.

“Enjoying yourself my apprentice?” Qui-Gon asked, an amused smile on his face as he sat down next to Obi-Wan. He was still not completely used to him as an apprentice, but knew it would pass in time.

Grinning widely, Obi-Wan replied “Of course master. I was talking with Clph about the upcoming diplomatic mission, and what he thought about it. His view seems to be a bit different then that of most Selkath.”

“That’s probably because he’s spent more time around other races then many of his species.” Qui-Gon said, then decided to get to the point of why he had looked for him.

Obi-Wan nodded, understanding why his master had made this decision. “I hope we make it there in time to help.”

Qui-Gon nodded, and only hopped the ripple in the force he was feeling wasn’t connected to the Korodan.

    Captains log, Stardate 18447.4:

The USS Pandora is on a routine patrol of the Omega Slavix system, along the Federation/Tholian Border. We have detected a strange spatial anomaly and are enroute to investigate it. First Officer Thompson has put the ship on yellow alert on the off chance this is the doing of the Tholians.

Captain Mary Galveston stood over the science station, watching the readings carefully. She had only had the Excelsior class USS Pandora for less then a year, but already, she knew almost everything about the ship, from its personality quirks to seconds before something was about to malfunction. Originally being an engineer, it made her much more capable of noticing such things.

Smith Thompson stood at one of the science stations, looking over Lt. Aira Matthews shoulder as they continued their scan. Neither of them was exactly sure what they had found, and it was well known aboard the ship that they both shared a love for science and the unknown. She smiled as she watched them out of the corner of her eye.

In front of her was Ensign Pi’talak, one of the few Romulans serving in Starfleet. He was still busy playing out scenarios of an encounter with the Tholians, whom he had stated his opinion that whatever they were going to find was probably being controlled by the Tholians.

Glancing back up at the viewscreen, Mary wondered if they would find anything new, something that wasn’t in the Federation databanks, when one of her newest crewmembers, a fresh faced Cadet by the name of John “Wesker” Madison, suddenly turned in his chair,

“Captain, I’m picking up a distress signal. Its very weak, but I don’t think its because of damage sir.”

Now curious, Mary stood up from her chair and strode over to the communications console, and peered at the message Wesker was picking up. She could see why it was weak, since it was on a different wavelength then what normal Federation ships used.

“Put it on audio Cadet.” She said, turning back to face the rest of the bridge, so that she could better gauge their reactions and thoughts of the message.

After a bit of static, which Wesker quickly cleared up, muttering about hanging whoever was using this wavelength to confound him, which caused a few of the bridge personnel to chuckle a little the message came in clear.

This is the space freighter Korodan, we are under attack by the Pirate vessel O’rlak, and require immediate assistance, to any Republic vessels in the area, we are sending the hyperspace coordinates to assist us… This is the…”

Wesker ended the message, saying “Its on continuous playback. They obviously are in enough trouble they cant keep a live message.”

Ensign Ssverenth, the Pandora’s navigator, said in his hissing and slurred English

“The coordinates for this hypersspaccee is unfamiliar to me. But perhaps Cadet Wesker can trace the message.”

Mary nodded, turning away from the Saurian as he and Wesker quickly triangulated the coordinates of the message. When they were finished, they said

“Captain, the message appears to originate from the area we detected that spatial anomaly.”

Nodding, Captain Mary went to stand in front of her seat as she said

“Red Alert. Relay a message to Starbase VII on what we have found and set course for the anomaly, Warp factor 7.”

    ************************************************** *****************

Qui-Gon and Obi-wan watched as the ship dropped out of Hyperspace. It had taken them less time then they had thought, but then the Hyperdrive was not a completely worked out piece of technology yet.

Stretching out with his feelings, Qui-Gon could feel the essence’s of both the Korodans and the O’rlak, both of which were still out of the Endurance’s sensor range.

“They are their Captain Kaida. Even though the Endurance can’t detect them yet, they are there.” He said motioning his hands in the general direction of the freighter they were attempting to rescue.

Nodding, Kaida went about getting the ship ready to render whatever aid it could, and proceeded to increase the ships speed so they would make it their in time.

Obi-wan sighed, and turned to Qui-Gon, asking

“Do missions for the council ever go as planned?”

Smiling slightly, Qui-Gon continues looking through the cockpits portals as he says “No, not really.”

    ************************************************** *****************

Orlon Solo fired several blaster shouts down the corridor, hoping the shots took a few of the invading pirates out.

Just what I didn’t need he thought to himself as another of his crew spun around and fell to the floor, a blaster wound in the center of his chest.

The boarding party was made up mostly of Twi’leks, with a few humans and adapted droids fitted out for battle. So far, at least by Orlon’s estimate, they had killed only 10 of the invading pirates. From what reports he had gotten from his crew elsewhere, things weren’t going good there either.

“What we need is a miracle.” He grunted as he dashed to a new hiding place while sending another pirate to his cold grave.

    ************************************************** *****************

The USS Pandora dropped out of warp after about 20 minutes of Chief engineer Janice Yun complaining that the dilithium crystals were going to shatter if they kept going at warp 9.

“Captain,” Lt. Matthews was saying, “We have arrived at the anomaly. The distress call seems to be coming from the other side of the rift.”

Mary turned and raised an eyebrow, stating “It would be nice of the science officer to actually tell us all what the anomaly is?

Flushing, Matthews turned back to her science station to make sure she had everything right, then turned back around.

“The anomaly seems to be some sort of spatial rift. As far as I can tell though, it is unlike any other rift known to Federation science.”

Frowning, Mary came over to look at her readings herself.

“How so?” She asked, looking from each screen, trying to find out why Matthews thought this rift so strange.

“Because it would appear that, instead of opening into another time, universe, or dimension, this one seems to open up into another Galaxy.” Matthews stole a quick glance at the viewscreen, which showed the rift sitting there in space, an alien starfield visible through its gaping maw.

Suddenly, Ensign Pi’talak was saying “Captain, I detect two vessels on the other side of the rift. I’m picking up weapons fire both between the vessels and inside the larger vessel. Scans indicate it could be the Korodan freighter.”

Nodding, Mary turned to Ensign Ssverenth and said

“Bring us as close to the rift as possible, and lock tractor beams on both vessels. Have security and medical teams ready in transporter room one through three. Ensign Pi’talak, prepare to disable the pirate vessel once their clear of the rift.”

Prologue: Part 2: Gateway to a New World

Orlon Solo peered through the gloom as he snuck through one of the Korodan’s many access ways. Behind him were two more of the ships small security forces. He couldn’t remember there names, but he figured they’d all be dead soon enough.

The boarding party he had been fighting against had fallen back from a rear attack, and that had given his small group the chance the get out of there.

The crew of the Korodan were using hit and run tactics, hoping to damage the boarding parties as much as possible while they tried to round up the crew.

Rounding a corner, they found several more of the crew, blasters held loosely in their hands. They were peering out a grate, watching something. At first, Orlon thought it was the pirates doing a small patrol or search of a hallway, but then he heard weapons fire, two types to be exact, one with a short bursting sound, the other with a long whine to it.

“Captain,” one of the watching crew said as they came up, “I think our message was received.” The words were cut short as several of the pirates ran from the way they had been going, now intent on fleeing. Several lances of energy chased after them, as Orlon got his first look at their saviors.

One would have thought he would have sang for joy, but the first thing he thought of, and it was indeed the first thing he said, was

“Who the hell are these people?”

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Qui-Gon Jinn pondered the strange situation they were now in. No advice of any sort from the Jedi masters of the past, or even the present, could help him here.

The bridge crew, along with himself and Obi-wan, were now close enough to the Korodan that they could see it in portholes. But what they were watching was what was disturbing them.

Right before the Korodan and the O’rlak was a giant rift in space, and from that rift could barely be seen, another vessel, larger then the two vessels at the maw of the rift.

It was not of any make that Qui-Gon had ever encountered. He could tell that some grace was built into the ship, and that whoever had built it had considerable power.
As they were watching, a strange beam of light snagged onto both vessels. It did not take long to understand that they were tractor beams.

First, the ship on the other side pulled the Korodan through, and then they began to pull the O’rlak through as well.

Kaida brought the two Jedi out of their thoughts when she said

“Full powers to the engines, I want us through that rift before that ship gets through!”

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Captain Mary Galveston watched as the first ship was pulled through, and began to receive reports from the security teams she had sent aboard the Korodan. So far, things were going well. It hadn’t taken long to figure out which group belonged to the freighter, and which one was the pirates boarding parties.

The pirates are scruffier was the word Lt. Kelly had said when he sent the first report back. Already, seven pirates were sitting in the brig, and four were on biobeds in sickbay.

“Lt. Matthews, open hailing frequencies to the Korodan” she said, hoping that its crew would be able to respond. It would make sense if the Bridge was one of the more heavily defended places on the ship.

Nodding, Lt Matthews set to work, and seconds later was saying “We have visual.”
Static filled the screen for a moment, but Mary didn’t have to say anything. She knew without looking that Matthews was working on fixing the interference.

“This is Captain Mary Galveston of the USS Pan…” was as far as she got, for the person on the screen was already talking.

“Thank the force!! If the Republic hadn’t sent a ship we wouldn’t have made it much longer!” the man said, some blood trickling down from a wound on his head.
Sighing and glancing down, she turned to look back at him and said

“I am sorry to say this is not a Republic vessel. This ship is part of the United Federation of Planets defensive arm known as Starfleet. We are here to help your vessel.”

The man looked confused for a second, but before he was able to say anything, Ensign Pi’talak interjected by saying

“The vessel O’rlak is clear of the rift captain. Disabling now.”

Mary could almost picture the lances of energy striking the hull of the pirate’s vessel. The report that Pi’talak gave of the status confirmed her thoughts.

As she turned back to the viewscreen, she saw two of her security people coming onto the bridge along with another man. He seemed to know what he was doing as he came over to the viewscreen.

“Thank you captain, your Lt. here has explained some of it to me. The crew of the Korodan is in your debt.” He turned to Lt. Kelly, who came forward and introduced the man.

“Captain” Kelly was saying as he gestured at the man, “is Orlon Solo, captain of the Korodan. This is his second in command, Taelros Allerti.”

Smiling, Mary took a step forward, saying “A pleasure to be of assistance. IF you have any wounded, my chief medical officer could assist you.”

A thin smile came across his face, and he nodded, then turned to Taelros and asked him to compile a list of the wounded so that the Pandora could take care of them. He then turned back, and asked

“Would it be alright if I come along with the wounded? It might help them keep calm”
Taking a moment to think it over, she nodded. “Of course. We would appreciate that.”

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Qui-Gon had watched the large vessel strike the pirate ship with several deadly looking beams of fire. The ship now laid there, crippled.

Kaida stood her ground as her pilots brought the ship through the rift. It did not take long for the other vessel to notice the new presence, as they were soon receiving a transmission.

“This is Captain Galveston of the Federation starship USS Pandora. Captain Solo of the Korodan has told me your ship is that of the ‘Republic’. We are willing to welcome a small party from your ship to be our guests for a short bit. Pandora out.”

Kaida turned and looked at Qui-Gon, a silent question sparkling in her eyes. After a moment of thought, he again nodded.

“There is no problem with going aboard my friend. I sense no deception here, only warmth and kindness.”

Nodding, she went over to the comm panel and sent the Endurance’s answer.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shimmering onto the transporter pad, Qui-Gon stepped down with caution. Captain Galveston had said that some of them might feel a bit dizzy from being ran through a transporter for the first time.

To Qui-Gons surprise and amusement, Obi-wan lightly stepped down from the pad he had arrived on and was quickly conversing with Captain Galveston. Next to her stood Commander Smith Thompson, who he had been told was her second in command. A few inches away from them stood the command crew of the Korodan.

Like himself, Kaida had some trouble stepping down from the transporter pad. But once she was on the deck she was standing firmly nearby, waiting for the young padawan to finish his questions. Qui-Gon decided to help him along by saying

“I’m sure there will be plenty of time to ask questions, my young apprentice, but we must follow our host to her conference room, as was agreed.”

Reluctantly, he stopped, and apologized for taking up the meetings time. Mary, on the other hand, merely smiled at him and stuck her arm out towards the door.
“Shall we make way? Or do we wish to take a small tour first?”

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the tour done, the group proceeded down a corridor, with Captains Solo, Kaida, and Galveston leading the way.

One of the things Mary noticed that confused both captains was the state of this galaxy. From what she had gathered, there galaxy only had one Interstellar group, with all the races living peacefully in it. They were confused by the factionalism that her own galaxy exhibited.

“..how is it that your Federation has been able to survive so long? If it weren’t for the Republic, our galaxy would be nothing but ruins.”

Grinning slightly, Galveston went on to explain that, while the Federation has fought wars, it has done its best to end them as quickly as possible with a suitable peace for all sides involved. She even went on to state that the Federation had even assisted in brokering peaces with other interstellar nations.

The group soon made it to the conference room, where there was laid out a small feast. As people found seats, Mary stated

“Choose whatever you wish. This little meeting is meant to create friendship and to exchange information.”

Within about ten minutes, everyone had something on their plates. Soon she noticed several of her senior officers talking with some of the guests, almost at random it seemed.

Soon however, Mary found herself in an interesting situation. She had heard the terms ‘force’ and ‘Jedi’ so much that she had asked what they were.

Not only did Qui-Gon and Obi-wan turn to stare at her, but so did Captains Solo and Kaida.

“The Jedi are the keepers of peace, they are what helps defend the republic. Surely your Federation has some Jedi in it.” Kaida stated, with a nod coming from Qui-Gon.

Realizing she had no ideal of whether or not she had ever encountered a Jedi, she asked what made them different from the rest of the beings in their galaxy.

This time, the question was answered by Qui-Gon. “Jedi are beings that have a higher concentration of metichlorians, a cell that is in all living beings. It is what some have called, the force cell. At certain levels, living things gain powers and abilities from the force. Much of it is mind oriented.”

Mary nodded, but only slightly. “Federation medicine has never recorded a cell like this, but there are some species in the Federation that have access to higher areas of their brain functions, allowing telepathy and in some cases telekinetic powers.”

After a moment of thought, Qui-Gon pulled from his robes a small device, then walked over to stand next to the captain.

“This device lets the Jedi scan the body to see what the level of metichlorians is. Would it be alright if I test your blood?”

Nodding ascent, she felt a small prick as a drop of her blood came to the surface of her arm. Qui-Gon put took the blood and inserted it into the device. Moments later, a few small beeps were heard from the device.

“It would seem Captain Galveston,” Qui-Gon was saying, “that had you been born in our galaxy, you would have been trained in the ways of the force.”

After a bit of surprised discussion, it was decided that the Pandora would be given one of the devices, and Qui-Gon also made a deal to transfer some data on Jedi training to the Pandora’s computer banks.

Suddenly, the intercom chirped, and Mary excused herself so that she could find out what was wrong now, which brought a chuckle from both captains.

Reaching the comm, she said “Galveston here. What is it?” After a brief discussion, she returned to the table, but did not sit down.

“I am afraid that we must end this meeting, as it seems the rift between our galaxies is closing. One of my bridge officers has stabilized it with a tachyon beam, but she isn’t sure how long it will last. Any trades being made should be made now, and then we must say our good byes.”

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Qui-Gon stepped down from the transporter pad, a small case in his hands. In it were several data pads regarding Jedi training techniques, along with not only the metichlorians detector, but the design pad for how to build one.

“It was a pleasure to have been able to meet you Captain. I hope your life is filled with new discoveries.” he said, shaking her hand as she extended it.
Smiling, Mary said “Same here. May the Force be with you.”

After that, he stood on the transporter pad, wondering if they would ever see them again, and wondering what to tell the Jedi Council about this meeting between galaxies.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Korodan and the Endurance turned about, and reversed course. Both ships were carrying the prisoners from the pirate vessel. As they were reaching the rifts threshold, they watched as the Pandora fired two torpedoes into the O’rlak. Then they were through the rift, and soon gone from the Pandoras sensors.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Commander Smith Thompson strode down the halls, a small container in held in the crook of his arm. He nodded cordially to every crew member that he passed as he made his way to his quarters.

He wasn’t in that much of a hurry after all, his last report to his superiors was only a week old, and at most they expected two reports a month.

Entering his quarters, he took the usual security precautions, and dimmed the lights. He then carried the case over to his personal computer, and hooked the case into his private mainframe.

After it showed it was connected, he brought up the file that no one on board knew about, not even Captain Galveston.

Retinal Scan Required.” the computer said after a moment. Keeping his eye level, he let the scan complete itself.

Scan complete. Commander Thompson confirmed. Section 31 database is now open.” the computer said, no tone to its voice.

With a savage grin, he said “Download all information on the the newly discovered Almadra galaxy, and put priority black tag on all information regarding the Jedi.”

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well, that’s it for the prologue. For those of you who don’t know, Section 31 is Starfleet’s version of the Tal’shiar or the Obsidian Order.

Apologies for triple post, it wouldnt let me put both chapters in same post. (and it hasnt had anyone in here in months anyways)

    Interlogue: The time between
In the years following this event, Section 31 was able to discover a safe and practical way of slipping into the Almadra galaxy, which held the revered Republic and their Jedi defenders.

At the same time, they had been training many of their rank in the ways of the Jedi, sort of at any rate.

Section 31 was and is an immoral organization, worse then the feared Tal Shiar and Obsidian order. They safeguard the Federation, doing whatever is required to make sure the Federation continues to exist.
They hide in the shadows, and use techniques and ideals that would horrify to no end any citizen of the Federation. Nonetheless, they are there.

When the research was finished, and the first Rift gate opened, Section 31 sent a single shuttlecraft, with only one occupant, trained in the ways of the Jedi, but because of their willingness to do anything to protect the ideals of the Federation, the occupant was closer to a Sith, something considered extinct in the Republic.

This first agent was one of many who would enter and infiltrate the Almadra Galaxy. In fact, they played a role in the downfall of the Republic, believing that, eventually, the Republic might try exploring beyond their galaxy, and they could be a threat to the Federation. So they let a Sith Lord loose, letting him take over the Republic and turning it into an Empire, knowing that with him on the Throne, and his apprentice, that they would stay relegated to watching and ruling their own galaxy, where they would be no threat to the Federation.

Little did they know, that one ship and its crew would change this……. And her name, was Enterprise.

A/N: Yeah I know, I’m putting some focus on the Star Trek area, but don’t worry. About the next six or seven chapters will be involving the Enterprise in their galaxy.

    Chapter 1: First Contact?

The bridge was in silence as they watched the large cube approach, and no one was less frightened, and intrigued, then Lt. Commander Charles Remus McCoy. He watched along with the rest as the ships hull repaired itself after the first volley of torpedo’s had been fired. He could even hear, barely, the Captain lapse into his native French.

Merde…” He heard him say, and nodded. What they were up against was an incredible force, one to be reckoned with.

And all because of that blasted Q.

He had sent the Enterprise whirling into this corner of the galaxy, for, in his own opinion, his amusement.

Charles himself slipped into some of his native tongue, saying “Fvadt, diam..” damn him, in Old Romulan, which was the one he had been raised with.

Charles was an oddity in Starfleet, one of the few half Human/half Romulan mixes. But he was even more unique because of his blonde hair, and incredibly striking deep green eyes, a rarity in mixed Romulan and even more so with pure Romulan children.

He had been born on a small colony world, a world which the Romulans and Federation both had claims on, and so both had set a competing system, where the first to make their colony self sufficient won the claim to the planet. His mother, a Romulan, had met a Human merchant who had been selling some of his goods to the Romulan colony. The Romulans had won in the end, and after living their for three years, they returned home to Romulous. There, he would spend till he was 10 years of age before his family again moved, this time to Earth where they stayed permanently.

An exclamation from the Captain and from Commander Riker brought him out of his reverie. He suddenly noticed the lack of the Borg Cube, which, for all intents and purposes, had vanished.

Admiral Tarkin stood on the bridge of the Death Star, a thin smile coming onto his mouth as he watched the moon of Yavin slowly creep into range. Finally, the rebellion would be ended, and the Empire would be able to rule the galaxy with an iron fist, as it should be.

He ignored the reports around him of the fighter combat going on in a few scattered sections of the stations surface. He had already long ago decided that nothing could destroy his great construct.

Just as the Death Star was coming in to clear sight of the forest moon, there was a small flash, and a large vessel suddenly stood in their path. The vessel was cube shaped, and nearly a fourth the size of the station.

Tarkin paid it no further heed, other then ordering the super-cannon to be fired on the obstruction to his victory. A few seconds later, and the ship was a smoldering swirl of energy and debris.

Of course, a few more seconds later, with another flash, so too was Tarkin, and his powerful Death Star.

    __________________________________________________ ______________________

Where the cube had been, the Bridge crew of the Enterprise watched as a massive sphere like structure appeared in the place where the cube had been. It wasn’t there long, as seconds after it had appeared, a massive explosion rocked it from the inside, tearing the thing into millions of floating chunks of metal.

    __________________________________________________ ________________________

Han cheered and whooped, with his long time friend Chewbacca roaring agreement in the seat next to him. They had saved Luke in the nick of time, sending Vader’s TIE fighter spiraling off into space.

He had changed his mind, realizing at almost the last minute that he owed the rebellion, or more specifically Luke, for his life. So he had swept into the fray, helping as many rebel pilots as he could as he made his way to Luke’s fighter. When he had got there, he fired the instance he saw the fighters tailing him.

As they had been pulling away from the station, there had been another strange flash, but neither of them noticed as they rushed to get away from the eminent destruction of the Death Star.

The explosion came, and the shockwave came straight for them.

Both Han and Luke pointed their ships straight away from the blast and rode the shockwave forward as far as they could before it dissipated.

As Han was turning back to the cockpits viewports, his jubilation at the victory suddenly vanished, when he saw a large vessel approaching their ships.

Upon later reflection, he would realize that the vessel, while large, wasn’t anywhere as large as an Imperial Star Destroyer, seeing as it was only half the length and shorter by a small margin.

He flicked on the comm. Channel that he had used to let Luke know he was there for the rescue. Waiting for the confirmation that Luke was on the same channel, he said
“Kid, I don’t think we’re out of the woods yet.”

Captain Picard and several of the other senior staff stood in Transporter room 1, awaiting the mysterious people from the two smaller craft aboard. Geordi would have been there, but was busy supervising the tractor beam as they brought the two craft into the shuttle bay. So, he had had his assistant, who had already been on the bridge, take over for him.

This left a nervous Charles wondering if he’d mess up the introductions with the two incoming guests. He always worried about such a thing to some degree, as there were a few other times when La Forge had been unavailable to meet incoming diplomatic or other guests in the past, and so he would send Charles for him in his stead.

This nervousness was more of a simple lack of confidence around big important people. Meeting the captain of another ship was easy street for him, but helping to welcome aboard a top diplomat of another race always made him queasy.

Though these days he was starting to think Geordi did it on purpose, in an attempt, as a friend, to help him get rid of this feeling.

It was working, though slowly. Still, some of the nervousness was from the guests themselves. From what he had been told by Data, who was in the room as well, one of the group had been trying to destroy the large ‘Death Star’ that had suddenly appeared before them.

He let himself relax as the hum of the transporters kicked in. He watched out of the corner of his eye as O’Brian compensated for two of the signatures, which he had been told to look for when they had arrived at the transporter room.

As the effect dissipated, Charles saw two humans, one walking carpet, and two ‘droids’ as they had called them.

After watching them make sure they were all in one piece, they stepped off the pad after the Captain politely showed them down. From there, introductions were made.

“This is my senior staff, the officers I trust most and have worked with most. Id like to introduce you to Commander Riker, Lt. Worf, Mr. Data, Dr. Crusher, Councilor Troi, and in our Chief of Engineering stead, Lt. Commander McCoy.” The captain said, indicating each of them as he went, and each giving a polite hello.

One of the two humans, one who looked to belong to a seedier side of things, stepped forward to introduce himself and his companions .

“I’m Han Solo, and this walking carpet here is my best friend Chewbacca, but you can call him Chewie, its what we all call him.” He motioned the other human forward, who had been checking up on the two droids, and said

“And this here is Luke Skywalker, the guy who destroyed the Empires vaunted Death Star.” He said as he ruffled his hair, and Chewie roared agreement.

One of the two droids came forward, and said

“And I am C3-PO, human cyborg relations. And this is my counterpart, R2-D2. I am sure it would be wise to make sure Master Luke and his friends haven’t come to harm from the explosion.” R2-D2 chimed in with a short string of beeps and whistles, signaling his agreement.

“I told you, you can just call me Luke,” He said, and went on to say “And I feel fine, and I’m sure Han and Chewie are alright as well.”

Picard smiled warmly, motioning towards Dr. Crusher. “It wouldn’t hurt to make sure, and it won’t take Dr. Crusher long to finish her examination.”

Smiling, Crusher came forward with a medical tricorder and began scanning them, and her scan showed nothing except one or two bruises.

Grinning slightly, Han looked towards the Picard, and asked

“So, where can an honest man get some grub?”

    __________________________________________________ ___________________________________

Picard lead the way into Ten Forward continuing the discussion on the Enterprises main focus and its mission in space.

“…and now we’ve reached our Ten Forward, a relaxing lounge for all of our crew members.” He said as the doors parted, revealing a lounge that was already filled with a few of the off-duty crew members. They approached the bar counter, where Guinan was already coming forward.

“Welcome to Ten Forward, what can I get for you newcomers?” She asked smoothly, causing Luke, Han, and Chewie to relax instantly. Charles, who was next to Picard, remarked “She seems to have that effect on everything doesn’t she?” Picard merely smiled and nodded.

Eventually, after the introductions with Guinan were over, Picard suggested that they all retire for the day, so that they would have enough rest for tomorrows discussions. With everyone agreeing, Picard led the way to their temporary quarters. After making sure they knew how to work everything, the rest of the senior staff began to head to their respective rooms.

    __________________________________________________ ______________________

Alone in his quarters, Charles thrashed in his sleep. Something was wrong, he could almost feel it.

It was almost like someone, or something, was in his head, forcing memories and visions into his thoughts. For some time the onslaught of thoughts, visions, and memories seized control of his mind, having nothing but them going through his mind.

Eventually, they all stopped. Little did he know, they would change his life, his career, and the fate of two galaxies.

Soon though, his restless sleep was awakened by the blaring sound of the red alert klaxon.

Chapter two is in progress as we Speak!!

Sorry Josun. I tried to read it for you, but the Trek references just go over my head so much that I can't make sense of the story. Your style seems fine, though. Nothing seems out of place, though there are a few places where there should be 's. It's seems a fiar enough story, but this is coming from someone who doesn't know much about either series.

HAD TO DOUBLE POST TO GET IT IN!!!! ITS OVER THE WORD LIMIT!!!

    Chapter 2

A/N: Remember, this is based slightly off a ST/SW x-over role-play. Also, I will make sure there is more Star Wars dialogue coming up.

Apologies, but I didn’t feel like dragging this chapter out past 12 pages (4963 words!!) so the switch is in the Next chapter. I do hope their was more Star Wars Dialogue.
For those wondering why this is in the Star Wars Section, next 6-9 chapters will be in the Star Wars universe before a switch back (for a bit).

Charles eyes widened when the red alert klaxon came on. He had been close to waking anyways, as he was having trouble sleeping, with strange visions rushing through his mind. He had no ideal what they were, or where they came from, but they were there.

He jumped out of bed, rushing to get into uniform. He would be needed down in engineering, and it would take some time to get down there.

Making sure to grab his combadge, he rushed out of his room, running past other crewmen who were heading for their stations.

He was just reaching the turbo lift when his badge chirped. “Laforge to McCoy!” Stopping in his tracks, Charles tapped communicator.

“McCoy here sir. What is it?” He could barley hear some shouting in the background, but soon Geordi’s voice came through again. “Picard wants me in the bridge, but I cant get there in time. I want you to get up there ASAP.” Charles nodded, remembering now that he was closer to the bridge then engineering was.

“Aye aye. McCoy out.” He then continued on his way, heading for the turbo lift. As soon as he was in, he said “Bridge.”

    *********************

Charles stepped into slight chaos as he emerged from the turbo lift and onto the bridge. Luke and his friends were on the bridge, along with their two droids. Picard was conversing with Commander Riker, and both of them were looking at some tactical readings.

“…so you think we should retreat Commander?” he was saying as Charles stepped over to the engineering panel. His motion caught Picards eye, as he turned and said “Excuse me, but where is Mr. Laforge?”

Charles turned, hoping Geordi’s order wouldn’t get him in trouble. “Laforge ordered me to take his place up here sir. There seems to be some problems in engineering.”

Riker scowled, tilting his head towards the tactical station. “So we’ve noticed. That explosion from the “Death Star” seems to have shorted some of our systems, chiefly our shields.”

Charles frowned at the unfamiliar term, and he was about to voice his confusion when Han, who had moved towards the upper rim of the bridge, said “That giant space station that we blew up. It was easier then skinning a Hutt.” He smiled slightly at the term, which made Riker smile politely, seeing as he didn’t understand the analogy. But he nodded towards Charles.

“So, any ideals on how to get shields operational?” he asked, causing Charles to turn back to his station. He began bringing up reports of the fried systems, and quickly found a way.

“It just fried some energy relays, but we can reroute the power through sensors and environmental control jointly. That way we don’t short out those systems while were fighting.” He then realized he wasn’t up to date on the situation. “Captain, can you give me a heads up on what’s coming at us?”

Picard turned to tactical, and soon he had switched the viewscreen to show a tactical map of the system. The Enterprise seemed to be near the third planet, but further ahead near the second moon of the first planet…

“From the scans of the Borg Cube that we got before it vanished, their appear to be two Borg vessels orbiting that moon.” Charles grimaced, saying “Two more Cubes?”
Shaking his head, he zoomed the view onto the second moon. “No, from what we can tell, these ships are smaller, and sphere shaped.”

Riker was about to say something, but the turbo lift doors opened, and Worf strode onto the bridge. “Reporting for duty Captain.” He said, quickly moving to take his station at tactical. Both Riker and Picard nodded, moving back down onto the lower half of the bridge.

C3-PO, the golden colored droid, came towards Picard asking “I’m sorry to interrupt, but what is a Borg? Is it some type of droid?”

Troi entered the bridge then, but whatever welcoming she was going to give was interrupted by Charles.

“The Borg are a cyberneticaly enhanced race of humanoids bent on ‘assimilating’ all life and technology. They have assimilated thousands of species to date, and are incredibly strong.” As he finished, he frowned, as were the rest of the senior staff. Picard glanced at him for a moment, but before he could say anything the ship rocked slightly.

“Enemy fire, minimal damage to the shields.” Worf said, redirecting everyone’s attention to the viewscreen. The two Borg Spheres had moved into weapons range, and were firing again, though missing as Data began to put the Enterprise through several evasive patterns.

“Mr. Worf! Torpedoes, full spread, fire Phasers at will.” Picard said, taking his seat in the center command chair. Riker and Troi followed suit, taking their seats opposite him. Charles braced himself as he felt the ship plunge sharply down, avoiding another Borg cutting beam.

As the ship began to swing to the right, a gravimetric torpedo from one of the spheres collided with the shields. The ship shook, and several consoles sparked and flashed on and off.

Charles ducked as part of the engineering console blew up, barely avoiding a trip to sickbay, which he never enjoyed. When the spark died down, he made a quick check of the systems, and scowled.

“Shields offline Captain! Sensors at fifty percent efficiency!” He shouted as another console near him exploded, sending the crewman at it reeling to the deck.

Picard was scowling as well as the ship shuddered some more from a glancing hit. “What about life support?!”

“Still functioning, but I am detecting several energy spikes.” Data stated as his fingers flew over the controls, attempting to outwit the Borg’s ability to adapt.

Luke had moved over and was applying some first aid to an injured crewman as he shouted “Captain, I think we should withdrawal!! We cant keep this up without shields!”

Picard nodded and moved over to Data’s station. “Data, are their any nearby systems we could attempt to hide in while we make repairs?”

Data began looking over the long range scans that they had made of the area when they first arrived via Q. “There is a class T nebula within 7 light years. At maximum warp it would take 4 minutes to arrive.”

Picard nodded, saying “Make it so. Mr. Worf, do your best to keep them from landing a successful hit…”

The Ship shook as another volley of torpedoes hit the ship, sending Picard stumbling to the deck.

    ****************

Engineering was a mess of people swarming all over the place, desperately trying to make repairs as the ship sped away from the pursuing Borg ships. Occasionally, part of a volley would catch up with them, causing even more damage.

“Get those energy relays to sensor array. We need to be able to tell when we reach the nebula that were actually there!” Geordi was shouting as another console exploded, sending crewmen rushing over to keep it from catching anything else on fire.

“Commander!! Life support is failing on deck 12!!” an engineer shouted as he took in more reports. He was so busy confirming a repair team to get to work on the system that he didn’t notice the energy build up in the console.

“Jerry!” Geordi shouted, diving for the Lt. as the console exploded. He hit the deck hard, pain coursing through him as he slowly slipped into unconsciousness.

    ******************

Charles sighed as Dr. Crusher administered a pain killer to him. He, Data, and Chewbacca were the only people conscious of those who had been on the Bridge.
Medical personal went through the room, putting several crewmen onto stretchers, since the last volley had knocked out transporters. Others were covering the dead with white sheets, and marking them for the morgue when there was time.

Picard and Riker had already been rushed down, and Troi was doing what she could to help down in sick bay. Everywhere repairs were being carried out as the crew worked desperately to get the ship back together.

They had reached the nebula just in time, as Data had estimated a few more hits would have left them as nothing but atoms floating in space. Now, with half the senior staff currently knocked out, as it had been reported that Geordi was also out of commission for the time being, Charles was doing the only thing he really could do.

“I wish Picard or Riker were awake..” he grumbled as the medication made its way through his body. Some of the pain started to ebb away, and the worst of it, started to dull down.

“Your doing fine.” Crusher said as she stood up. There was a low growl, and Charles turned slightly to see Chewbacca enter the turbo lift again, this time carrying three injured crewmen with him. Crusher nodded and gave a taut smile, then followed him in.

Charles scowled, standing up to survey the beating the bridge had taken. Several consoles were blacked out, and sparks still flew from a few of them. The door leading to the captains ready room was blocked by a shimmering force field, as the ceiling had collapsed in, leaving a small hull breach nearby.

Sighing, he looked at Data’s console, which was working again. “Status report Data. If you can get enough of a report at any rate.”

Data nodded, and began to compile a list, which he put into a data pad and handed to Charles.

Charles nodded thanks, and was about to go over it when he asked Data, for what seemed the hundredth time “Are you sure you wouldn’t rather take temporary command?”

Data looked thoughtful for a moment, but shook his head. “ I do not believe that I would be useful enough to the crew at this time then you are. You have actually had command experience before haven’t you?”

Charles grimaced, saying “I don’t like to remember that time.” He really didn’t like remembering his time aboard the USS Versailles. “Alright Data, You have the bridge. I’m going down to engineering to check with Ensign O’Brian.” Data nodded and returned to organizing repairs as Charles made his way to the turbo lift.

As he made his way towards engineering, he stopped and reassured some crewmen on the way. Word still had a way of spreading faster then light speed, despite the damaged condition of the ship. So far, it seemed a good portion of the engineering crew knew that he was now in the position of Acting Captain.

“Picard better wake up soon…” He grumbled again as he entered engineering, and wondering if the entire ship was as wrecked as it and the bridge.

Debris was scattered everywhere, thought more consoles were working then had been the case on the bridge. Everyone was working quickly to get the systems back to operational status as soon as possible.

It took him a minute to find O’Brian, as there were more crew members helping with repairs then usual. Once they had entered the nebula, he had ordered all shifts to active duty. There would be time for relaxing and rest later.

He almost tripped over R2-D2, who was holding a small tray with several tools on it. Somehow, when R2 whistled in annoyance, Charles understood it.

“Sorry, I’ll get out of your way.” He said, and let the droid whirr on by. After that, he soon found O’Brian speaking with Luke and Threepio, who were all looking at a schematic of the ship.

“Thanks for all your help Threepio. Now the combadge will translate R2’s beeps and whistles. It’ll help since hes doing his best to help with repairs.” O’Brian was saying as Charles came up to the three. Luke was the first to notice he was there.

“Oh! Its just you. You come down to make sure everything’s going alright?” He asked, but before he could answer, O’Brian interjected with a “Nah, hes just coming to bug me. Does it all the time when hes off duty.”

Charles mimed being shot in the heart, but a smile had returned to his face. “Thanks Miles. I needed that.” Miles simply nodded, then waved to Luke and C3-PO. “These two have been helping me add R2’s binary into the universal translator. It’ll be easier for the little guy to help now that we can understand what hes asking for.”

Charles nodded thanks to both Luke, who merely shrugged, and Threepio, who tried to stand straighter then he could in pride. He took a quick glance at the screen, then returned his gaze back down to Miles.

“So Miles, what’s damaged and how long do you think it’ll take?” He already had a good guess of several of the damaged systems, but he wanted O’Brian to double check his assumptions.

“Depends on whether you want the entire ship operational or just enough to keep the Borg from turning us into kindling.” He shook his head and continued “Nah, of course he wants only half the ship operational. We don’t need everything to win a battle.”

Charles chuckled, thanking whatever supreme being ruled the universe, that Miles had made it through. “Come on Miles. Give me the gist of the report so I can go check on the wounded in sickbay.”

Smiling, he pointed towards the saucer section on the grid. “We have minimal Phaser capacity at the moment, so we need to be getting those operational. The deflector array needs some new power relays, and the shields and engines need some new circuitry and wiring. Life support is fluctuating on various decks, but were getting it tied down. Past that, there’s nothing much else I can do to make her battle ready.”

Frowning, he brought up the hull integrity status, and grimaced. “It’d take a week to repair that by ourselves. We need a star dock for this.”

Luke joined in here, asking “Well, where’s your nearest star dock? It shouldn’t be too far from here.”

Charles grunted as he brought up some more of the damaged sections “I’m afraid not. We’re seventy thousand light years from Federation space.” He did some math in his head, then added “We’d all be in our late eighties to nineties by the time we got back.”

Luke’s eyes widened, but they were interrupted by Charles combadge. “Crusher to Commander McCoy.”

Charles frowned for a moment, saying “ I haven’t been a Commander since the Versailles…” Nonetheless, he tapped the communicator. “Lt. Commander McCoy here. Is everything alright?”

There was a slight chuckle in the background, but Crusher responded quickly “I’ve stabilized Captain Picard as well as Laforge and Riker. I haven’t been able to awaken them yet, but the Captain wishes to speak to you.”

Sighing, Charles nodded to O’Brian and Luke. “I’m on my way.”

    **********************

Han rubbed his neck after the nurse removed the hypo spray. It was something new to him, since back in their galaxy they would have used some kolto or bacta to help patch up some of his wounds.

Chewie came up to him and grunted “They had some trouble healing my wounds.” he then gave Han a wookie-hug, which made Han wince a little. But he endured it. Chewie was his friend, and he was trying to help.

He heard the sickbay doors whoosh open, and watched as Charles walked in. He glanced around the sick bay, then started walking towards them.

“Hey kid. Not bad getting us out of that mess.” Chewie roared agreement. “I am honored to consider you a friend.”

Charles nodded, but then walked off. Chewie let out a low simmering growl, but Han stopped him when he saw where had gone to.

“Don’t get upset Chewie. Baldy there woke up, and hes in charge at the moment.” Chewie obligingly stopped.

“Are you alright sir?” Charles asked as he came up, concern crossing his face every which way. Picard looked up from the data pad Beverly had handed him and nodded slightly.

“Yes Commander, I’m quite alright, though the ship doesn’t seem to be in the same shape as I am.” He chuckled lightly at that, which brought a thin smile to Charles face.

“I have repair teams working on making us battle ready within four days. Hull repair will have to wait till we get back to Federation space.” Picard nodded at the report, then Charles asked “May I ask why both you and Dr. Crusher are calling me ‘Commander’?”

Beverly, who was administering another dose of medication to the Captain, smiled and said “I’d think it would be obvious.” Picard smiled, interjecting “Congratulations McCoy. I am pleased to promote you to Commander. I apologize for not having an pip to present to you, but seeing as I am currently incarcerated,” he waved his hand at the sickbay in general, “I cannot make it official.”

Han, who had been listening just barely out of earshot, came up and slapped Charles on the back. “Way to go. Save the ship and get promoted. Pretty nice day huh.” Chewie even came up and gave him a hug, which silenced Charles of whatever complaints he might have had then. When air returned to his lungs, he said

“Sir, I can’t take this promotion. You of all people should know about how I feel after the Versailles.” Picard nodded gravely. “Yes, I would know that feeling.” His eyes glazed over for a moment, but then he looked up at him “But I let go of my past. So should you.”

Charles sighed in defeat, and grudgingly nodded. He could always say he was promoted under duress.

“Thank you Sir. I’ll do my best to prove I’ve earned this rank.”

Picard smiled, and sat up a bit more. “Good. Your first assignment is to get the Enterprise battle worthy. Make sure we have as much power routed to sensors and engines before we exit the nebula.”

Charles had a confused look on his face as he asked “Sir? You left out shields.”
Picard shook his head. “No, there are some class T nebula that affect the magnetic fields around starships, effectively, bouncing and enemies weapon around a ship.
Before you came in I asked Mr. Data who performed a sensor sweep of the nebula. This nebula does effect the magnetic field around our ship.” He chuckled slightly, continuing “The Borg might even be surprised by the effect. They may merely be waiting for us to show ourselves.”

This time Charles shook his head. “The Borg wont do that. They’re likely calling for more ships, probably more Cubes. We wont be able to stand up to one, let alone if it has support ships.”

Again, Charles had a confused look when he finished the statement. Picard and Beverly were also looking at him in some bewilderment. “Commander, how do you know this? From what Guinan said we weren’t supposed to meet the Borg yet.”

Charles thought for a moment, then said “I honestly don’t know Captain. I just,.. I just do. I cant explain it. Its almost like I have someone else’s memories.”

Now that he thought about it, he also knew things about the galaxy that Han, Luke, and Chewie came from. It would certainly explain why he understood R2 without Threepio or a universal translator.

Beverly was about to say something, but Picard stopped her. “Whatever the reason, even if there is a way to fix it, I see no reason at the moment to do so. We are in unknown territory, and if Commander McCoy has somehow been given extra memories about this are, far be it from me to stop him from using them against the Borg.”

Charles nodded. He felt no pain, merely the feeling that there was a shadow over his thoughts, his memories, the very essence of his spirit.

“I want a senior staff meeting in two days. I would still like to speak with our guests a bit more on the topic of their arrival here, as well as some knowledge about where they come from.” Picard stated, and Beverly was now gently pushing him back onto the bio bed.

“You need to rest Jean-Luc. You’ve been through a lot today.” Beverly turned her professional yet concerned face towards Charles. “And so have you. You need to get at least six hours of sleep before you come back on duty.”

Charles was about to protest, but Picards chuckle and weak smile made him stop. “You’d best do as she asks. If you don’t, she’ll sneak onto the Bridge and use a tranquilizer on you.” Beverly smiled again, shaking the empty hypo spray she had in her hand “Don’t think I won’t.”

Smiling weakly, with a laughing Han and Picard nearby, he relented “As you order, Doctor.”

    ***********************

Charles wrestled in his bed, unable to fall asleep. So much had happened, and it was finally falling down onto his head the weight of the position they were in. There were good chances that they could very well die. And he had almost faced a repeat of the Versailles. He didn’t think he’d be able to handle a second incident of that type.

Sighing, he got up from his bed and grabbed his uniform. He took a quick sonic shower, then left his quarters. He could think of only one place to go to.

He was not too stunned to find that Ten Forward was still in one piece. It never seemed to take any damage, even when the ship was almost on the verge of ripping itself apart. Still, he was glad that its luck seemed to have made it through again.

He scanned the room, seeing a few people here and there. Because of his order that two of the three shifts would work on repairs while the other rested, their were only a few crewman taking a chance to unwind. He figured that most were the third shift crew who were taking a chance to wake up and get ready to relieve first shift. A small look of disappointment flashed in his eyes as he saw several of the first shift crew already off duty, but he wasn’t going to push it. They were in dangerous waters, and everyone needed to relax a little.

A sudden chirping and series of whistles drew his eyes to the bar, where he saw R2 speaking with Guinan, a tray on his head. She was smiling and shaking her head yes as he neared them. He had come down for something so he figured he might as well have a drink.

“No worries little guy. We got a few bottles of that, and I’ll be happy to get some of it for your friends.” She nodded and gave a small smile as he reached the bar. R2 whistled and beeped, and Charles merely nodded.

“Hello R2, Guinan.” he said lightly, slipping onto one of the seats. He looked around again, this time spotting the ships guests sitting near one of the windows that gave a beautiful view of the red orange nebula around them.

“And while I’m at it,” Guinan said, glancing at Charles, “What can I get for the acting Captain?”

He didn’t wince this time. Guinan at least was willing to understand his feelings, and so referred to him as the actual rank he was holding for the moment. Some of the lower ranked crewmembers had been calling him “Captain” when he looked around the ship.

“Romulan Ale please. And some Rekt soup?” Rekt soup was a native Romulan dish, that had thin strips of meat in a thick broth.

“Sure thing. Be right back.” Charles nodded, and stole a glance at R2. R2 whistled lightly, and Charles chuckled. “I could be better R2. Too much to deal with all at once.” R2 then started chittering excitedly.

“Thanks for the vote of confidence.” At that point, Guinan came forward with several glasses, a bottle of with Romulan writing on it, and a bowl that had Charles stomach growling the instant he spotted it.

“Here you go Acting Captain, and you can take these to your friends.” She placed the glasses on R2’s tray carefully, and he beeped happily as he rolled away.

Charles took a slow sip from the bottle of Romulan Ale as he watched the droid. Somehow, he could understand him without the universal translator. He was definitely sure it wasn’t an unknown knowledge in Binary, as that was what Threepio had told him the droid was speaking.

“Troubled?” Guinan asked as he turned back to take a taste of the soup. As usual for Ten Forward, it tasted as good as the soup his mother had made.

“Yeah, a little. So much has happened.” He smiled for a moment, adding “I do hope you didn’t get the recipe for this from my mother, because she would have put up a fight for it.”

Guinan smiled, shaking her head. “No, just my personal touch.” This garnered a snort from Charles, but he left it at that. After a moment of silence from Guinan, he continued “Ever since the Versailles, I’ve had trouble ever imagining being in any command position again.” He wondered idly if Guinan knew about it, then snorted again. Guinan seemed to know the past of every crewmember aboard.

“Now now Commander. We cant let that getting out.” The look of astonishment caused Guinan to laugh a little. “That’s not the only reason your having trouble sleeping.”

Charles scowled, but their was a touch of humor to the expression. “Lets see,” He bought up his hand and began counting off his fingers “The ship is in a state of terrible damage, were surrounded by a hostile enemy, and we have several people aboard from another Galaxy that we may not be able to return. Not to mention I’m forced into command.”

Guinan grabbed a glass nearby, which Charles had no recollection of being there, and she started cleaning it as she said “Oh, there’s a way. I’ve been there and back, so I should know.”

Charles almost spurted the ale out as he worked to control his lungs. He looked at her in pure shock. She didn’t react to it, simply cleaning the glass some more. “Why don’t you go talk to them Charles. Maybe they can quench your curiosity.”

“You are full of mysteries Guinan…” he said, almost awed. He had served aboard the Enterprise for almost two years, and he had learned that Guinan joked about things she knew only rarely. But he was going to pay her back for startling him. “Dr. Crusher said Picard should be up sometime tomorrow, as should Lt. Worf. We’re having a Senior officers meeting, where we are going to be talking about our guests. Since they’ll be there, why don’t you come.”

She smiled, nodded her head, and shooed him off in the direction of Luke and the others. As he walked away, she pulled out from her robes two objects. One small metal rod, the other a small picture frame.

“I wont forget you Qui-Gon… you taught me so much.” She then placed both underneath the counter and resumed her work.

Meanwhile, Charles was reaching the group, and without warning was caught up in a tight grasp by Chewbacca. He could see both Luke and Han chuckling as Chewbacca let go. “Friendly isn’t he.” Charles said, as he took a seat next to R2 and Luke.

“You don’t know the half of it Kid.” Han said as he ruffled Chewies shoulder. “This wookie has been my friend for some time, so I’ve gotten used to it.”

Charles nodded, taking another pull at the Ale. The warm liquid caused a fire in his stomach, but he was able to keep drinking. Being part Romulan helped sometimes.

“Hey, I heard you got a promotion.” Luke said, and Han laughed “Yeah, but apparently he took it under duress.” Chewie start laughing a little himself. Luke was left perplexed until Charles filled him in “I didn’t really want the promotion. Last time I was in a command position something terrible happened.” He took a longer pull from the bottle to try and blur out the images of blood and fire that were coming to his mind.

Han didn’t say anything, merely let him sit there for a moment. Then Charles said “Tomorrow, if its okay with you, we’re having a senior officers meeting at 900 hours. There’s a few things wed like to know about your galaxy, and since theirs nothing better to do then fix the ship,” This got some laughs, and a few beeps from R2, “we figured now would be a good time.”

Luke glanced at Han, who smiled and shrugged. “Sure. We got no problem with it. 900 hours it is.”

Charles nodded and stood. The Ale was starting to take effect, and he knew that if he wanted to get back his quarters on his own two feet, he had to leave now.

“Well, enjoy the night. I’ve had a bit too much of the spirits tonight.” They waved him off, and he made sure to ask Guinan to give them a bottle of Romulan Ale, curtsey of Commander McCoy, before he headed off to his quarters for some long waited rest.

Remember folks, Don’t like it, Don’t Flame it.
Now, I need a quick vote. Who thinks I should put what R2’s saying into text?

As for Guinan and her connection to the star wars galaxy, I’m using her mysterious past to give me the excuse of saying she’s a Jedi. (which makes some sense).
