I am wondering about your point of view on Negi's family. All we do know about his family that his father is still alive. Negi does have his cousin Nekane. We have seen Nekane's father trying to protect the village during the demon raid. Negi and his cousin Nekane are likely living with one of their grandfathers. It is a normal practice for authorities to place orphans under the care of living relatives. The most likley candidate for Negi's and Nekane's grandfather is the Magus. Negi and Nekane simply call their Grandfather Springfield the Magus.
Ken should have explored more of Negi's family. Ken may be teasing us over Negi's family. We will find out more about Negi's family since the Wales story arc is coming up.
Of course, I wished that we don't have spoilers. Yet, there is one spoiler is about the Princess of the Dusk. Some fans speculate that she is Negi's mother
