Can you even know if anything would make a sound? Does sound even exist?

Because that is what sound is, basically. Vibrations in the air that move our eardrum and send a signal to our brain.
Now, if our minds didn't interpret these vibrations, would they be sound?
No. They'd simply be vibrations.
So, to answer your question, I say both yes and no. Yes, in a way that main proponent of sound, the vibrations in the air, exist, but no, because a mind is not there to interpret those vibrations as sound.
