A torrent is a file which contains one or more small file. When you've downloaded a torrent, open it in a program called 'Bitcomet' or 'Bitlord'. Then people will 'Seed' the files to you, and at the end, you'll have the complete file.
Example, let's say that you're downloading an episode of Negima from a torrent file. People will seed the files to you, then you'll have to wait a while until they've finished 'seeding', and then it's finished.
