If I wrote my whole view on this topic, it would be something similar to "
Continyity, Canon and Apocrypha" by
Curtis Saxton.
Shorter though, and not quite the same.
Let us just say that in Negima's case, I consider the manga the
primary canon. Other officially released versions form secondary etc. canons, being "more canonical" than fanfics, for example. One of the consequences is that if something "extra" happens in one of the anime adaptations
and does not contradict the manga, I consider that event canonical.
