i posted some of the steps he used in his post.
![]() did that very fast cuz i dont have much time. Just used mosaic tile filter selected karen with the lasso tool and did another mosaic filter with different settings. Patchwork can also be used to add more variety. Thats very basic. If u wanna get it like I have no life. You need to go over certain sections with the lasso tool and select different mosaic and patchwork settings. ![]() that was with multiply layer settings. Slightly more advanced is duplicating the main layer and changing its layer properties over the duped one.

Meh.. im too lazy to type up the stuff... XD
I just did a google on mosaic software and came up with this site. That should give you a primitive mosaic, but it might gobble up all your ram depending on the size. I used Photoshop CS to do mine, but ironically... that can do most of what i did in a lot less time. If you want it to be grayscale, adjust the settings in Photoshop. (You can of course leave it as is, but it probably won't look so good unless you do precise color matching and alterations.) You can use the patchwork plugin in photoshop on the original picture to divide it into even boxes. Then you insert the photos you want to be in the mosaic (must look at least 75% like the region you're placing it on). After all that is done you delete the first layer (presumably the original picture) Ok... if your original picture was a color one and your pictures used in the mosaic were a mix of color and b+w and you want the color to match the original... just convert the mosaic to grayscale, then back to RGB, and then place the original picture on top (expand to fit and adjust opacity to leave the mosaic in background still visible) In this post i kinda lied about the 'original', it was the grayscale version and the original had a bit of misplaced color in it (hey, that picture was included in my manga scans XD) As you can see in the picture below, you will need to use the same image multiple times, but try to at least put duplicates 2 boxes away from each other. ![]() Meh... i even had to resize the screen capture XD 2.25MB... Any more questions? or need a clarification? ill gladly answer once im finished with a cursed essay >:... Wheeeee... EDIT (1 minute after orig post): Oh BTW don't try doing this unless you have a lot lot lot of free time. And if you want the mosaic to be with "squiggly" lines instead of straight lines like ShinobuFan has it, the only way to go is photoshop. In my opinion, I think that my mosaic woulda looked better without the straight lines... but it would be too much trouble to go into >_>.

those colored boxes are disturbing me I was in a hurry to get off the comp earlier I forgot to explain I dropped the satuation to negative 100 to get the no color effect i didn't use grayscale.
![]() i went into PS and put more effort into a random background thing. Anyways without looking at nasty tutorials. I managed to teach myself photoshop and i have a great respect for others who dont use tutorials as well. As tempting as those links may be just do what im about to tell you and try to learn on ur own its more rewarding. I used the polygonal lasso tool to select area's of the picture. I then proceeded to use filters such as texturize>mosaic tiles texturize>grain texturize>patchwork I also used stylize>Emboss and pixellate>mosaic on the legs I highlighted the legs only using the lasso tool and used a stylize>find edges I did this AFTER i had set the texturize>mosaic it made a mess of dark ugly crap on her leg which is all good. After I finished it completely with the filters I selected area's of the background not the image and I used find edges on it to form a bit of a triangular pattern this is all preference to you whatever you think looks the best. I copy'd the initial layer after i did this and set a very faint satuation colorize adjustment on the copy's layer the color was yellow and i set that to soft light. I then took the initial layer and used a 5.0 setting gaussion blur on the entire thing which smoothed it out a great deal. My point is this mosaic stuff is a creative use of those filters and more. Just try it out yourself see what you get.

its not that hard man its just about throwing together random idea's go nuts with the filters!
You can get more advanced like I did by stock blending and applying blurs and stuff but dont even worry about that yet
