Question About Image Editing

I've got an art project that I'm working on (it's Love Hina related) but I don't know that much about graphics and image editing, and this being a place where people who obviously do know something about those fields post their stuff, I'm hoping someone can help me.

What I'm trying to do is make a mini comic out of a series of panels. The panels in this case are photo still shots, not drawings. I have software for editing the pictures, but what I don't know how to do is to combine them. I could just leave the whole thing as a long list of pictures, but there are quite a few shots, and if possible, I'd like to treat the individual pictures more like panels that I would then assemble into pages with a comic/manga kind of layout. That would let me have several pages to work with and post, instead of a dozen or more individual picture files.

Does anyone have any advice on how best to do this? I don't have access to any high power graphics programs at the moment such as photoshop or illustrator. Right now I've got Paint and PhotoImpression. Suggestions on technique or software downloads, or anything else you think might help, would be much appreciated.

we have a few technical people who could help you get photoshop I'm sure ^_^.
if you know the dimensions of your page you can make a "page" and drag you photos into it, arrange them and add a border.

Editting pics for a comic is a bit different than what I do. I only started making my own memes a couple months ago myself.

I know that certain people have made their own mini-comic signatures using gifs.... but i misremember who they were. Hopefully they'll shed some light here .

Thank you both for your kind replies. I'm much more at home with text than I am with graphics, so this is going to take some figuring. I've done some of that kind of work, but not very much, and not very recently either. Miroku, taking your signature for an example, if I might ask, is it one big picture that you made from the smaller elements, or is each of them listed as a separate element by itself? My apologies for asking so many questions.

Oh, the upper five signatures I just took from pictures of the faces so I could capture their eyes and not much more and added text to it. They are each seperate. I got the different fonts online

The Nosebleed brigade sig I did take smaller elements for and pasted them on. tedious work, and I had to restart several times before I was somewhat happy with the results . I may still fix it later on.... when I get better at it .

Thank you, that was helpful. I'll go in and play around with some ideas to see what works. Hopefully, the next time I post about this, I'll be posting a link to the project, or at least an update, but I've got some work ahead of me.
