[Guide] The New Guide to IRC!

Hello everyone~!

Our lovely Style-sama now has ownership of an IRC server.
What does this mean?

Well, the old #lovehina on Rizon is now replaced.

We now have us a channel #animeb on IRCd server!


So what does this mean to the people who ARENT on IRC?
Well... IRC (Internet Relay Chat) is an internet chat service...
It's a bit like the shoutbox on here, but infinitely more cool.

But it's meaningless unless we can get YOU to come onto it.

So, I'm gonna show you how!

(EDIT: We has JavaIRC! For quick access without mIRC. But I suggest you still get the program.)
JavaIRC: Animeb Chat (Temporal)

First off, get mIRC! (It's the program you need to access IRC.)
mIRC: Download mIRC

Download it, install it, run it.

A registration window will pop up. Just click continue... mIRC is free, that window will just be there to hope to fish monies off you.

Once you close that, you'll be confronted with the Option screen:



#1: Fill out your info. Give only what you don't mind being shown... I personally use my real name and Email, but you don't have to.
The Nick is what will be used in the Chatroom. Try and use your AnimeB nick to avoid confusion... Spaces aren't allowed, so use a '-' or '_' to fill the gap if you need to.
The Alternate nick is what you log in as if for some reason your regular nick is taken, or ghosting.

#2: When done with info, click Servers



You'll see a list of a bunch of different servers... But ignore them. They're all wrong!

Click the ADD button. (Circled.)



You get a new window! Fill out the information here.
Name: IRCd (Or "AnimeB", if you want)
Server: irc.animeb.com

Leave port as default (6667), and unless you want a group, ignore it.

You don't need a password.

Once done, click Add.



Once done, you'll see the new server added. You're doing it right!
Make sure it is selected (it should be by default), press the SELECT button, then hit OK.



You'll be taken back to the main mIRC window.
Your Server selection and Nick will be displayed in the Status Bar.

Now click the lightning bolt in the upper left corner to connect!



The annoying little "Favorites" window pops up.
Uncheck the box that says "Pop up favorites on connect" and click OK



The blank window will now fill with a bunch of text... Interesting read, but most of it won't mean much to you.

The changed Lightning icon means you're connected. Once the stuff stops scrolling, type in the bottom text box.

/join #animeb

This is the command that gets you into the channel.
Hit enter.



A new window and tab pops up.

Huzzah! You're in! You can speak at any time now! ^_^

The box on the right shows the people who are currently on, and what their role is. (+ is Voice, @ is op, % is Half Op, and ~is IRCop.)



Now... If you intend to come back often, you'll want to Register your Nick.
This way, you can get status in the channels such as Autovoice and such. Also, people won't be able to take your nickname!



Click the Server tab (or window). (It's the one with all the text in it.)
Why do this here? That way if you mess something up, people don't see your password.

Now, as the help said, type this:
/ns register password email

That means you put what password you want instead of "password", and your email instead of "email".

Hit enter, and you're set!

Now we need to do something about that Spanish bit...



In the status window, type:
/ns set language 1

Now you'll get English from the server. ^_^



Congratulations! You're an IRC user!

also what could be helpful to people:

downloading and installing mIRC and have firefox.

type in the address in firefox (irc://irc.animeb.com/animeb) and you will then be directed to mIRC.

Just download filezilla extension for firefox:

Anyway... good guide, except that all the help and nickserv messages are in Spanish O_o I should register my name Forgot to do that last time.

Oh yeah... Forgot to mention the language change...

/ns set language 1

Do that after you reg your nick.

What about relogging your nick if your nick happens to still be online and you end up stuck on your alternate?
