Beyond the Fabulous Five

The Fabulous Five of Love Hina: Motoko Aoyama, Mitsune Konno ("Kitsune"), Shinobu Maehara, Naru Narusegawa, Kaolla Su.


Browsing pictures of the LH girls, it is interesting to observe different combinations of the Fabulous Five and the rest of the female cast.

My question is: If you had to list "all" girls and women of at least some importance in LH, who would you include and how would you rank them?

The ranking should be based on how important for LH you find the characters, rather than how hot or cute you find them (although this will certainly affect your judgement of importance).

If you simply forget someone, no prob. That is a good indicator of the unimportance of the character. On the other hand, you are free to include nameless Tokyo University students and the like; they have received favorite character votes on official Japanese reader polls so there is no reason to exclude them here.

Besides, I know of but have so little information on Emi Ichikawa, Sachiyo Matsumoto and Kikuko Onoue (other sources: Kikuko Ogami) that I cannot really rank them.

Being that I have seen very little of the anime, my ranking of the anime-only characters can be illogical. But even though I like Ema better than Mei, I think Ema's role in the manga is less important than Mei's is in the anime. (I just watched the episode featuring Mei as a French dub yesterday, understanding less than half of the lines. )

Call me bias but Kanako solodified Kei+Naru relationship and she was an actual antagonist the series needed. Mutsumi is very nearby due her past. I even dare to say that Kanako and Mutsumi were more important than some of the initial 5.

I even dare to say you may be right about that.

However, I see Mutsumi as an elementary character, while the storyline would have worked without Kanako. It would just have remained a bit shorter... and we would have missed some truly great moments.

If it were up to me, I'd include every other girl I could think of in the series, and rank them on how important I found their role in the story

...oh. That correlates quite well with how important I found their roles in the story, see? I've ranked the girls on how much I liked them, which is of paramount importance
