Saddly, most players didn't use it as you could only deploy one to the battlefield at a time and many players didn't use them effectivily and lost tyhem quick...leading many to believe they sucked...as for me...I found them very effective. *maniacal smile*

My mecha knowledge is extremely limited, so I don't really have a favorite just yet, per se. Once I finish Seed, though, that may change (only on ep. 17 so far).
I'll need more time to consider it (although I've had weeks to do so), but so far they include: 1. Xenogears 2. Seibzehn 3. Dinah 4. Asher 5. Shining Gundam 6. Burning/God Gundam

For me, I've really only seen G Gundam and Wing. (I have no UC knowledge whatsoever, lol). Working on Seed ATM, though. I really like it so far.
