Look at it from a contrasting view, Setsuna says the shinmei school is supposed to be on good terms with the kansai magic association, with motoko is in position to take over until vol 14. Secondly if setsuna knows about magic then motoko has to know too. Also when she fights tsuruko in vol.9 Tsuruko clearly uses the airal shundo to evade motoko's air scattering fist technique.

Don't forget, that midair shundo is more of a martial arts technique than magic. But of course Motoko knows of magic. She's merely keeping it on the downlow in Love Hina.

Great observations.. I suspected that Motoko knew magic too, but I didn't find evidence for that.
Now, it is logical to conclude that Motoko certainly knows of magic, regardless of whether she uses it or not.

I agree, Motoko's style is one used/specialized for fighting against demons (evil or what is called outsiders; evil creatures not from the martial plane (demons and alike)). It's only logical to assume she knows about magic. Also she can exorcist.

I wouldn't be surprised if she could use her techniques for simple or magic like spells

Its an anime/manga with a turtle civilization. Im pretty sure magic is possible and is known widely in love hina.

That's debatable. On the one hand, Keitaro's about as sharp as a brick. On the other, he seems to have had some training in the supposed "Urashimaryu."

Once again I would like to point out that the basic attitude of LH is mundane. When something unbelievable or supernatural occurs, most of the characters either will not pay attention or will treat the thing as something exotic that was just not featured in their scoolbooks. This leaves plenty of space for guessing: Does a certain character know about magic? Does (s)he ever notice it in front of her/his nose? Does (s)he perceive it as magic?

We could discuss a "mana level" listing of the characters. The higher level someone has, the more likely it is (s)he will notice, understand, and even master magic.

I would say Tsuruko and Motoko have the highest levels, while Shinobu and Keitaro (as of the beginning of the series) are close to zero. Mutsumi's level, for example, is much more difficult to determine.

Well being in the Shinmei School Motoko and Tsuruko should know if the Kansai Magic association's relationship with the shinmeiryuu is as Sakurazaki Setsuna Claims.

Actually not hearing about magic makes even better sense. It's exactly something she's allowed to tell is it? And if by Vol 14 she takes over the shinmei school, she would HAVE to know about interaction between the kansai magic association and the shinmeiryuu.
