Would you turn against your country?

I overheard someone say something in class that really made me think.. The question was basically this:

"If someone offered you one million dollars to turn against your country, would you?"

He meant like go to another country and support them if they went to war with your country. You know, with guns, bombs, tanks, ships, whatever. There would be casualties, but your country would lose in the end...

I thought that his question was a bit too easy, I immediately decided that I would reject the money.. So I have changed his question a little:

"If someone offered you something you have always desired (something incredible, expensive, powerful, etc.) to turn against your country, would you?"

Personally, I am too patriotic to turn against Canada. I would never betray my countrymen and the people I love, no matter what.

Either you accept the desired item(s) and live a wonderful life in another country while many people in your country have died..
Or you remain with your country and stick by their side to the bitter end.

Which would you choose?

This is incredibly relative to the cause of the war. I quote Lewis black "If you're against the war, it doesn't mean that you're for the other side." I don't think I could turn against the USA in any situation, especially since if I didn't agree with the war in the first place.

I don't care all that much about my own or other countries for that matter because national politics implies dirty hands/empty promesses/liers etc.. (also personal reasons that i won't share here since it has nothing to do with the question at hand), BUT i wouldn't turn on Canada for profit/gain, even if the reason they got to war in the first place was stupid, then they could send me to prison if they wish, i wouldn't fight a war that doesn't deserve blood to be spilled (see 9-11 Farenheit, you'll get my drift).

Just my 2 cents.

I would against my USA. Not to destroy freedom mind you. Just to rid the country of stupid politicians and clean up what they screwed up.

I'd like to say I wouldn't.

I am a patriotic person (which to some people means the same as the word 'bigot' ?), and would not be able to turn against it at all.

Which doesn't mean to say I don't have bad things to say about it occassionally.

The Nazies weren´t really evil though.As I see it they were somewhat misunderstood,but still I guess they did some bad stuff to people.But don´t forget what Hitler did for some people as well.I am pretty sure I can´t articulate myself very good at the moment,but I don´t care .Some parts about the Nazi train of thought were positive in my opinion.

Edit: As for the question,I don´t think I would turn against my country,my countrys leader maybe,but not norway itself.It is just to beautiful.

Actually if you are saying that I would need to join the foreign military and actually fight against my own country... Then no.

Not because I support my country... But because I dun wanna be in military.
Neither my own nation's, or anothers.

But... Im just not patriotic...
I mean, the country is good... The people are good... But the government... I think needs some help.

Im not the rebel sort... but Im just not the kind of guy that will hang flags anywhere, or put those little war support stickers on my stuff. XD

Well, i dunno what exactly you mean by turn against to your country, i mean.. id never hurt innocent mexican ppl.. but if there were some evil mexican group, then well yea, id go against them even if it would mean having to join some foreign army or something, id always try to be in the "right" group lol..

I intend eventually to move to either Japan, the USA or Canada.

I'd defend the UK over the USA or Canada.


If Japan went to war with the UK I'd defend Japan - Because Japan's army is defensive only, so if there was a war then the UK would be invading. And unless there was a very damn good reason (and if there had been, I'd have moved out of Japan before then), then the UK would be the bad guys.

Well... Canada is a very quiet & peaceful country & I kinda like it here... the only things that I don't like about it is the government ... & the weather... so if you ask me... I'd rather not... I hate wars & my family & relatives are here so I wouldn't even if they give me tons of money... but... If they asked me to turn against the government... I'll take their offer ^_^ heheheh
