Unfortunatly it's like that here too. People have a total wrong vision of those who watch and enjoy anime. They think it's childish. And they have a vision of a stereotype. A vision that shows a boy (or girl for that matter), with glasses and spots, having no friends and no life, which of course is total wrong.
So, yeah, I do keep quiet about it in my real life - but a girl in my class, is a total mangafan! She writes Japanese and Manga on her notebook all the time. She's the only one in my class, that knows that I like anime. We've also talked about anime, but it feels so awkward to talk about anime and manga in real life, when you're not used to it. Am I the only one feeling that way?

Ashamed? How can you truely enjoy something if you can't share that passion or have to hide to read/watch etc the material of your fandom?!? I walk around all day at work and outside with my NERV carrier bag, read mangas in the subway, i don't give a ... what others think and why should i anyway, to each his own *nods*

allmost everone at my school,when they see you reading manga, they imediatly say "why are you reading hent** at school. i just tell them some rude words,and carie on reading. only me a boy named izac and teliko fukuyama read it at my school. i love it soo much i have a bookcase devoted to it!

well, its widely known in my year that i like anime, unfortunately the people in my year generally class anime as crappily drawn rubbish like pokemon or naruto or dragonball z, or as "that weird japanese cartoon porn"

I am not ashamed of loving anime/manga.

This goes back to my acceptance of any form of animation, as equal to other forms of media.

I grew up in the 80's, the heyday of american animation. We had G.I Joe, Thunder Cats, Transformers, He-man.

When I finally found anime and later manga. It was rather natural that I understood these are just another viable media form.

Perhaps only due to the hysteria surrounding paedophiles in the States do I feel somewhat sheepish reading Negima at work. Others might get a totally wrong impression of seeing myself reading a 'comic book' with young girls in bikinis on the cover(vol 7).

Many people don't like anime/manga. But, most of my friends had gone addicted about anime because of me. I didn't force them they just liked it.

I have a couple of friends who are into manga, which is cool.
I'm not ashamed of liking Anime/Manga, but that doesn't mean I streak down the school halls waving a banner saying; "AKO IZUMI N MOTOKO IZ DA BOMB!!!!112 LOLZ!". Then it would get agitating.

I never hide the fact that I love anime and manga, but it's not like I walk around shouting it at the world either I think all of my friends and everyone else I interact with frequently (my class etc.) know that I'm addicted to anime and manga.

If anybody ask I'll tell them "yes, I love anime and manga" and, if they're interested, tell a little about it And if they don't like it... that's really too bad for them.
