Say you find some information through dodgy means. Like say, the FBI installed a keylogger onto someone's PC and logged them looking at something really sick like kiddie porn. But said person realises and does a really good hard drive wipe (not a format, that doesn't wipe data) and so the data is unrecoverable.

They know he's guilty, but they cannot use the evidence (the logged stuff) because installing a virus was illegal, and so holding said data is illegal and they could not admit to having it. They'd get away with it.

I guess that in a court of public opinion, even that data would be allowed. Something like that anyway. I'm just guessing some bits

As for your last comment BobCat - I think a better way to say it is "Can you afford justice?". You can't get partial justice, either it's justice or it isn't.

which is why mob rule (or public opinion) isn't a great way of making decisions... That's why we have a legal system.

yes, it fails some people, but it's the best we've got. Public opinion is also wrong sometimes

Well, mob rule may not work, but neither is the "justice" system.

And remember that if you're rich enough to hire the best lawyers, you'll get away with more than if you were poor.

If Johnny Cochrane were Michael Jackson's lawyer, he'd be moonwalking out of that courtroom with a smile on his face.

But I digress.

When it comes to Hollywierd celebrities, wierd stuff is what they do, and I'm not surprised Michael got arrested.

Well this is a good thread. I know he is guilty he needs to be put away for life, for all the crap he pulls. He should have been put away a long time ago.

wow... harsh lot, aren't we?

if he's guilty, he should be put away. If not, he should walk free... that's my take on the matter.

Macauley....

it's not my idea of fun, either, and the whole idea does sorta make me shudder, but if he's found to be innocent, then that's fine. If not, he should get what's coming to him.
