RPs: Long term or short?

Just wondering, anyone like their rps to be long and have a heavy back story and go on for as long as possible? Or do you just like doing role plays that are a more flexible and have little background story that may last a week or two?

Personally I like long rps with a solid story. I tend to get attached to the characters I play and like to go back and rp as them.

The short ones more often attract noobs who don't know the rules of RPing, and attracts those who like to interfere in your plans, but longer RPs are generally better

For me it depends on how the RP Master presents their setting and introduction for their RP Story.

Really it depends on our cast, I mean...if the story sucks then you won't have a story that will end EVER cuz everyone will drop it.

BUT, if everyone's having fun then you start too see extensions being thrown in out of nowhere and interesting plot twists. OF COURSE these are the types of things you love to see in RP ^^ but sometimes never finish

Now there's the rp that everyone's just 'lub-dub' on and don't care either way. These aren't usually too long but can go for a decent amount of time.

Meh i like Military RPs with Meaty metal gear stories, and the freedom to throw a spanner in the works at any time ^_^

I prefer the long term RPs. Heavy back ground, strong story and most of the time everybody is a decent RPer and the bad RPers usually drop out if your into the story for a few weeks.

I think I've done a few short term ones with other people, only a friend and myself ended up rping for the last 3 pages. Even the original creator seemed to have forgotten about it -.-'

But I've done a short term one that ended up becoming a long term one. It was rather epic and turned into a private rp soon after.

Ive got a star wars and star trek rp im doing with one of my uncles. I wouldnt exactly call it long, since we only do it when he comes with me and my sister for visitation with my dad (average once a month ) but weve been doing it since around christmas, and its stil going.

We need a new long term rp of some sort. The Shinemeri challange thing is a nice way of reviving things in the Rping section, but we need a good Rp to get it going again.

I prefer them long, long enough to make you feel that you know the universe, I prefer to be the storyteller though, so I prefer it because I like to make Rps that rewards certain types of play after a longer period of time, rather than doing "Good if you choose A, bad if you choose B" puzzles or dilemmas. Also the longer ones tend to focus less on combat and level advancing, and a lot more on diplomacy, relationships and the story, which is what I prefer. There just ain't no good way to do battle, unless you use extremely complex games such as D&D.
