The 'Everyone's a Sama Day!'

Yeah, I just picked up the words 'sama' and 'ojou sama' from watching anime and, like a new toy, have been using it like crazy in the SB.

Just so there's no misunderstanding, I don't really think anyone's my social superior when I use the sama word. I just like the sound of that word. hehe. This phase will soon pass when I get tired of using that word. Like the sound of my name. Teck's actually pronounced as 'take' but, my American friends kept calling me 'tech'. I love the sound of 'tech' even after these 7 long years. Much to the dismay of my traditional parents. But hey, all in the name of fun and laughter right? No harm's done.

Are there any more fun words like sama or ojou sama?

Teck Loh

Ryo Misaki is a name known to all

Might I suggest '-dono'.
It's very similar to '-sama'... but used to be used for the Emperor.

However, it's used far less in modern days...

I became infatuated with it after watching Rurouni Kenshin, in which he called respected girls with '-dono'...
So now I use it much like '-sama' for girls. =P

Generally... I'll use '-sama' for mods, or people I really respect... (Ancient members... Ken-sama, Kei-sama, Style-sama, BobCat-sama)
And I use '-dono' for girls I respect. (Mutsumi-dono, Motoko-dono, Eva-dono, Chao-dono, Pariah-dono)

-taicho can also be used...
It means something like "Captian". Use it for Brigade leaders.

'-chan' is good, of course... But I think we're talking about really honorable honorifics... =P
I dont think there's anything other than Sama and Dono, though.

-dono means a superior person who is of equal stature to you. Like when two greats talk to each other.

Where did you get THAT idea?

Dono (Kanji: 殿) is an honorific in the Japanese language, rarely heard in current conversation. It is more common to early-period films or anime. Modern usage is limited to formal writings. Dono, as with other Japanese honorifics, is suffixed to the end of the name, such as "Tenchi-dono." Dono is a term of great respect and reverence.

The word dono originally meant the residence of the aristocracy. It's often translated as "Lord" or "Lady" in English subtitles, though noble status is not necessarily implied; it is more akin to general terms such as "milord" or French "monseigneur". Dono is similar to "sama," but the latter is less formal and often carries undertones of personal affection.
Not for equal status at ALL!

"-kun" also works well. It's mostly used for boys, but can also be used for students of either gender in schools, mostly by teachers (e.g. Takamichi calls Asuna "Asuna-kun").

Wikipedia explains it better:

Quote:
Kun (君, Kun?) is an informal and intimate honorific primarily used towards males. (It is still used towards females, but rarely.) It is used by persons of senior status in addressing those of junior status, by males of roughly the same age and status when addressing each other, and by anyone in addressing male children. In business settings, women, particularly young women, may also be addressed as kun by older males of senior status. It is sometimes used towards male pets as well.

Schoolteachers typically address male students using kun, while female students are addressed as san or chan. The use of kun to address male children is similar to the use of san when addressing adults. In other words, not using kun would be considered rude in most situations, but, like the rule for using san in reference to family members, kun is traditionally not used when addressing or referring to one's own child (unless kun is part of a nickname: "Akira-kun"—Akkun)

'-kun' is great... If I could, I'd order everyone to address me with '-kun'. =P

But, not for BobCat-taicho... He's above that... "-san" at a MINIMUM. O_o
