It's not actually a league, you know. That's just a stupid name they gave to the European CUP a few years ago to make it sound more commercial. Hate it.

Bring back the old knockout, I say. That way, it actually felt like a cup.

I like its current format , gives more of a chance to teams and you get to see more games .

The playoff sysmtem's always seemed both confusing and useless to me... I tried to keep up with some Icehockey this year, but it was just totally lame with the playoffs, so I dropped it...

"Liverpool's tally of 18 Football League championships is a record for English clubs" no need It's been a while, though...

But I agree, a league is way more prestigious than a cup. Everyone can get lucky in a cup, and some might be very unlucky. In a league a team needs to keep up their best through an entire season.

Had to go and check with Wikipedia, did we there? Never mind, I'm sure you'll win the league within your living memory at some point. Same goes for me.

Sadly, not for me

Fifa are set to back the player quota proposal... y'know, the one that says more than half your starting team has to be of native origin Qualified to play for the country's national team

This on a day that it's been reported that English player numbers last season were the lowest in Premier League history.

The only conclusion we can reach from these reports is that the footballing world is out to destroy Arsenal and Arsene Wenger's transfer market policy

Well, yeah ... but you're aware they have to be vaguely good to be of any use?

And are you aware you implied that Blackburn are good by stating that comment?

Blackburn had one of the lower proportions of English players, apparently

Enough English league talk. I think our next topic of discussion should be the Euro .

Hmm, I somehow think either Germany, France or Italy will win it this time

Spain are usually touted as potential winners. Similar to a bunch of other countries, they appear to generate a few stars every so often, but never really have great teams.

I can see the usual countries in line, as you've said, selo: Germany, Italy and perhaps France. I'd like to see Sweden do well, but I can't see any winners outside of that group.

That said... Greece won it last time out

Portugal should have won last time out. They did really well. Again, with the players they've got, they should have walked the final... seems to be an Iberian affliction, you think? Tanking on the big stage?
