Problem with France is that very nearly their entire class of 1998 were African, and African players have started playing for their own country now.

There arent many players left from 98 though. Vieira doenst play for france anymore? I think thuram doesnt play in the national squad either i dont think (due to oldness) and some others are already retired .

they didn't do too bad two years ago. But they no longer have Zidane... Henry isn't as quick as he was (though he's still reasonable)... don't seem 'em getting past the semis

I knew they held the record, but was nowhere near knowing how many that would be

Spain would often seem like a natural candidate for the Euro, but they always fail at these things... Greece only got really really lucky in '04, methinks... Not gonna win it again. Germany, Italy and France will always be dangerous... Portugal might do good, but they're not really reliable as I see it, and they got far last time because of home grounds.

Maybe Czech or Poland? Eastern Europe often holds some surprises...

So walf holds the exact same opinion as I do, barring the Eastern European lot?

Czechs tend to be like the Spanish, walf... they come in after a brilliant qualifying campaign and are always up there, but just fail to finish off. Poland? Not going to get anywhere near it, I'm afraid

Czechs have a decent chance, yes.

For posterity's sake, I'd like to see Croatia win

so we were knocked out by the eventual winners?

Nah, it'd be nice for any country to win, really... after all, Britain's so full of everywhere else that if England don't win, it'll be a home victory in any case

well, it's on and so far Germany and Portugal are looking pretty good, methinks. Doesn't seem like Swiss or Austria will have much use of home grounds... Both lost, but at least the Austria - Check Republic match was a close one.

Let's just hope for Sweden! Heja söta bror!

Eh, both austria and switzerland are nobodies in football, i didnt expect anything from them . Out of all the games, i think Portugal has played better than Germany, i think turkey is stronger than poland, so thats how i measured . Lets see how Italy and France perform . Go France/Germany~

I reckon that none of the 'big' teams have really performed yet. Even the Germans were well below their best in playing Poland. It's always this way at the start of a tournament, but if this continues, it could well be the dullest tournament I've seen in yonks

France's game just now was also mega boring . I really dont know what that anelka guy is doing there instead of Henry, i dont see him as a national team player, he should be in like the inferior divisions, he's horrible

Wow, netherlands vs Italy game is quite a shocker. 3-0 , Best game yet
