Firefox go *poot*

So my Firefox has sort of died on me (the reason I haven't been on in 2-3 months. I'm so used to Firefox, I can't use any other browser for very long without wanting to shoot myself). I start it up and that goes fine, but when I try to browse the internet, all I have is a white screen. Absolutely nothing there. The toolbars and all that stuff up top is there, but the part of the window where the internet pages are displayed is just white. I don't even get that "Welcome to Firefox, may I take your order?" page when you first start it up. I've gone to Firefox.com and looked at the help page, but I've been unable to find something that helps me.

Firefox also appears to be unable to download updates automatically. I have do go to Firefox.com and do it manually, and a new version doesn't seem to fix the problem either.

So, anyone know how to fix my Firefox?

Uninstall-reinstall would be my initial solution

That was the first thing I did. Did that twice, and it didn't do a thing.

Z is a glorious beacon of light
Hmm... if that didn't work... might be a little virus run amuck in the system o_O Check aforehand and see

Failing that... what build of Firefox do you currently have? O.o

. has much to be proud of

Go to
C:\Documents and Settings\[your user]\Application Data\Mozilla\

And delete the Firefox folder in there. The application data folder is hidden by default, so you have to enable the 'view hidden files and folers'. By deleting the Firefox folder in Application data, you're basically deleting all your preferences/configurations, this makes firefox start as 'brand new'. That usually fixes weird stuff.

hinarei is a splendid one to behold

it's a shame to blat your preferences, but it's better to get the thing started rather than worry about your settings

An uninstall/reinstall doesn't get rid of all those settings, see? So try what selo said and you should end up with a default out of the box Firefox

Well after over a month of reading Z's post (me lazy), I finally updated my McAfee software and after running a scan and murdering several virus'/adware/other crap, it works!

I'm not sure what caused the problem, because McAfee just killed everything the second it found it, but it works and that's all I really care about.

I have returned to plague you!!!

welcome back!

if you're going to be on the net these days, sadly you must have an up-to-date anti-virus and firewall if you're going to get anywhere. Bloody thing's crawling with nasties
