With facebook and twitter being the two kings of social networking, many forums seem to suffer from a drop in activity. Why go to a forum when you can tweet a short message instead? Or just post something on your wall on facebook instead.

Personally, I don't use facebook that often, I rarely go on my facebook account. I guess I"m too old school and love forums.

Forums need to work hard to make sure they have a niche, something they can bring to the membership
