    Silas' Compositions

Have you ever written anything? Share it with us then, maybe we can inspire or help each other or just get some feedback. I've started writing down pieces I've written myself and I'm hoping to study composition at the musical conservatorium one day. Don't let a false idea that I'm suddenly a musical genious discourage though, contribute with anything you might have

As for what I've written myself and tried to record, here goes:

Idé i F dur (Idea in F major):
This is the first piece I've finished for the piano, or at least I think I'm finished with it. I'm quite happy with how it has turned out. I did play some false notes abit and stuff, but well, there's this "run" I can't play anyway, which is a part of the piece, so I'd never be able to record it how it should be played anyway, at least not now.

    Idé i F dur.mp3 - Windows Live

    Gyngen (The swing)
This is an idea I hope will turn out to something great, I got my inspiration from this girl at work who always sits on a swing all day long.

    Gyngen.mp3 - Windows Live

Pleasant Hymn (dumbest name ever, ever, ever)
This is a piece I wrote on piano a long time ago, I didn't finish it though in my opinion, and I wrote it sibelius for some other instruments. Apart from the horrible midi sound, it's quite good I think, although repetitive But hey, I was 18 or sum'n. If anyone should happen to have a better sound than the Microsoft GS waveable thing I have, please do record it and send it to me

Sibelius Music - Find, share and publish music scores

A piece I wrote for christmas, there was a barythone sax and a cello besides my piano, that was a bit strange. The ending is lame if you notice, that's because at the end you're supposed to sing the christmas hymn "dejlig er jorden" It's originally from Norway I think. Gets me everytime.
Julestykke udkast 1.mp3 - Windows Live

There are two other pieces I wish I could have added to the list, but I had them on putfile only, and that has shut down

Now go add your pieces, please

Okay so it's not a new composition, but I recorded the piece I'm playing for my piano teacher today. Sorry for the minor mistakes and pauses

    Alas I'll just keep bumping

This is a piano piece I'm working on, I'm still not satisfied with the melody at the beginning :/, it's too dull.

Shisho from now on I shall ask you about all my music =D Finally someone who gives me an honest comment on it. I'm glad you say that because, when I play the piece myself, I feel the emotions I want to pass on, but if my piece doesn't project those feelings, then it's just time to work harder.

And thanks, apart from the ending, I like it myself, it's a bit old though.

Here are some piano pieces I wrote for the entrance exam to the pre-school and since then:

Stille stunder II & III (quiet moments)
    http://soundcloud.com/silasalj/stille-stunder-ii
    http://soundcloud.com/silasalj/stille-stunder-iii

Both of these pieces come from an idea of trying to write something simple and short without it becoming boring

    Stykke i 6-4 / Piece in 6/4
    http://soundcloud.com/silasalj/stykke-i-6-4

This is the first piece I wrote where I experimented with different rhythms, greatly inspired by Philip Glass dare I say, and I'm really pleased with it

    30. min impromptu 9th of May
    http://soundcloud.com/silasalj/30-min-impromptu-9th-of-may

For once the title actually describes the piece completely, I wrote this is as an exercise giving myself 30. mins to come up with a piece. For this I used a picture as the inspiration: http://www.flickr.com/photos/starsmending/4536897077/ (subliminal advertising !!!!!)

Variation over skilsmisse I / Variation on divorce I
    http://soundcloud.com/silasalj/variation-over-skilsmisse-i

This is what I ended up with from the original idea "gyngen", but since it moved in a different direction than what I had originally intended, I decided to call it a variation so I could go back to the idea and achieve what I wanted later on.

    Skilsmisse II / Divorce II
    http://soundcloud.com/silasalj/skilsmisse-ii

Another piano piece in the "divorce" series, this is the best piece I've written so far I think.

I do approve of this thread. I also feel you've been iimproving since last year, which is natural, although it is very noticeable. My favourites are your more melancholy pieces.. I cannot remember the title, but there was one in particular I really liked. (it was the one I went on about that you sent me in May!)

that was lovely I'm on my own at my place right now, and the place was dead quiet, so I had this up high and filling the whole house! Good stuff I don't remember ever listening to a piece specifically written for vibraphone before.

The performer was Rasmus, composer noted here as Silas, Aeris

I'm glad you liked it And yeah, vibraphone is not really that popular an instrument, but it's awesome!

Why this thread has gone under my nose for three years, I do not know
I've only listened to your recent ones , and I must say I quite like these

I liked Rainy Day the best. Stille Sunder V was very nice and calming, but IV seemed to bit much too slow. III was also pretty nice, and it gave me the feeling of a bittersweet sort of melody. Although there was one part that seemed a bit off for me (at around 29 seconds in the video).

I shall eagerly await your next set Liked and shared your page on FB

Cool, I'm very glad you shared it on FB It's always nice to get good feedback But worry not, I'm in the middle of writing music right now, so new "set" is on it's way.
