Anyone here use last.fm? If the answer is no, then it's about time that you cruise on over there and register!
last.fm is an amazing website. What does it do? Well..
- Compiles everything you've listened to into handy charts.
All it takes is for you to install a simple plugin into your music player of choice and last.fm will begin building your charts: recent tracks, weekly top artists, overall top artists, and overall top tracks. Weekly charts are updated each Sunday while the overall charts are updated almost daily. The recent tracks chart is updated in real-time.- Helps you find new artists and musicians to listen to.
Once your charts get large enough, last.fm will frequently recommend new music to you based on your tastes. Also, by visiting an artist's page, you are able to find similar artist charts.
Upon hitting roughly 300 tracks played, you will also receive neighbours. Neighbours are users with similar tastes to your own and are another great way to find new artists.- A sense of belonging in a growing music-based community.
By befriending people, gaining neighbours, and building your charts up, you will develop a sense of pride in your last.fm profile page and will soon begin to feel like part of the community as last.fm forum members, neighbours, and random surfers pop by your shoutbox to comment on your excellent taste in music.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Check out my profile page for an idea of how profile pages develop.
