So that people will not unintentionally be spoiled on future events. You can discuss the latest Del Rey MSN releases here.

For your information at the time of this post Del Rey is on Vol. 22. Japan is up to Vol. 26 and Shonen Magazine is up to chapter 253. To put some perspective on where you fit into the world of Mahou Sensei Negima.

With that said spoiler tags are not required.

If you have not read up to at least Vol. 22 I would not proceed further.

I'm willing to sticky this for those who haven't been peaking at the latest scans as long as it's Negima, Alrighty ^_^

But anyway, after reading volume 22 I am getting more and more sure that Chisame could well be Negi's future wife, I mean, shes like progressing into a more caring figure even though she puts on a hard shell!

Surely Chisame becomes even more close to Negi over the course of the Magic World arc.

Does this fit into some overall plan by Ken? Or just fitting due Asuna's absence. Or both.

Ah, we need one of these. Personally, I prefer the Del Rey version to scanlations - I read both, but still pay for Del Rey. Good idea, miitan.

I actually JUST got my volume 22, so once I've read it, I'll put in my opinions.

haven't even bought volume 21 yet.
Manga's are rare to buy here, so i usually order them online, but for just 1 or 2 manga's it's pretty expensive.
bought some volumes in Japan though, cheap but too small

Personally I like the scanlations better. They seem a better translation of intent. AQS's stuff is first rate.

I still buy the manga when it comes to the US to show support for the ongoing efforts of Ken et al.

Ive always read manga - have to order them online, though. My nearest store only has up to volume 15 x_x
Never liked reading scans, always unappealed to me. Nothing like sitting in your chair with a good manga and a mug of hot coacoa

The book store I am getting my Negima books from have a subscribe service, so they send me the book and the bill as soon as it is out.

Anyone else than me that think that the translator of book 20 and 21 was really bad?

Aye after finally getting things together after around Vol.7. Then, lately, they switch to a different translator. Thus we have all the old problems.

Such as Nekane, Negi's cousin, who is mistranslated as sister.

But...Negi CALLS her sister, right? That's not a mis-translation, I don't think.

According to the original. She is Negi's cousin. nee-chan or ni-chan, which he calls her, can be taken out of context. It can be translated as both sister or cousin depending on the context.

There is translation(getting across the meaning of what is said) then there is transliteration(word for word what is said regardless of intent). I think the Del Rey Negima Vols. 1-4(later fixed) were rife with transliteration mistakes.

Then as time progressed Del Rey got the hang of it and translated better what Ken Akamatsu was really talking about. They even went back and released 1-4 with better translations.

Someone that actually knows Japanese could give a better explanation of why Negi is calling her cousin instead of sister.

Edit: Just one more reason why I like AQS scanlations. They put alot more heart into it.

This is not a manga or an anime problem alone. I play a game Lineage II which comes from Korea. The US is about 6 months behind any release from Korea. However there are those that give spoilers of the upcoming release. NCSoft of US does a terrible job translating sometimes. Real hit and miss.

I have had this discussion many times about "professional" translations not matching up against fan translations. It seems that the fans put more heart into their work. Instead of corporate translators which just slap out half-assed jobs.

Purely only what I have heard and seen from a few forums I haunt about Negima and Lineage II.

I don't mind the errors, they aren't nearly as bad as some other manga translations I've read (Tokyopop gets the stink eye from me) and I kind of like the occasional minor pop culture shout out (the Godfather one was kinda cool)

I heard 22's translation is pretty good. Now Del Rey needs to go back and fix the other volumes

Thankfully only something like Vol 17-21 need fixing.

Is it just me or does the honorifics get less used as the series progresses?

I went back and read my Vol. 9 the other day since it is one of my favorite. In the letter Negi sent Nekane. He calls Nekane his sister.

Blah it is quite clear that Nekane is his cousin as stated elsewhere. I wonder how many of this mistakes are scattered throughout Del Reys volumes.
