    The PhotoShop Artists Guild

So, I just thought of this idea the other day... As I was sorting through my PSDs and thinking of what to do with them... <__<

The intent of this brigade is to bring together the users of PhotoShop on this forum.
I'd like to see sharing of resources, information, tutorials, and stock.

    Main project ideas...
~Create a tutorial to teach the basics of PhotoShop to others.
    ~Share and explain good plugins/filters/brushes.
~Hosting and sharing of pre-clipped Anime stock images for other's use.
~Sharing good tutorials for creating good backgrounds and effects.
~Making commisioned Signature Banners for other people or brigades.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

So if you are interested... Regardless of weither you have a lot or a little skill, please join~!

hmm... a photoshop brigade, eyh? very well, I will give it a try! Please sign me up - Ryo-sama!

I know mostly the basics, and I'm capable of making pretty straight forward ordinary sigs... I'd love to learn some of the more advanced techniques of e.g. light and shadow ^^ (which I'm pretty terrible at )
    ...and a hopeful new year!

Two already... Not a bad start...
I'd also like to group people by their experience level with Photoshop...
So if you'd go ahead and mention that as well, it'd be greatly appreciated. ^_^

is this just for photoshop, or are us GIMP users allowed in too, the interface may be slightly different, but in essence, they have the same filters and stuff most of the time and do much the same thing, I make lots of stuff in the GIMP.

Well... That's troublesome... I've only fooled with Gimp a little bit.
It doesnt use PSDs or the same Filter types as PS, does it?
And... All the instructions and tools used in tutorials and such will be different for Gimp...

But I dont see why we cant create a seprerate division...
    The concepts are the same.

I crown you Head of the Gimp Division!

Good then. I'll put you down as 'Intermediate'.
    We'll be using 3 main classes, I think... Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. ^_^;;;

I'm more familiar with Paintshop Pro actually, Ryo. Although at the moment, my shop is down until I can cough up the cash for a full install (damn medical bills ><).

Does that kind of experience work in my favor enough to be considered for membership here?

It's a 'brigade' only in idea and structure... Somewhat.
I dont like the term Brigade... so I use Guild.
Mostly because I consider this FAR more productive and serious than a 'brigade'.
    We're professionals.

I'll add you none the less... But what is your skill level?

...cash? Full Install? The HELL is wrong with you??
Who PAYS for software? Seriously... =P

PhotoShop || isoHunt - World's largest BitTorrent and P2P search engine

    Enjoy.

Anyway, I've not used PSP for years. (Abandoned it as soon as I discovered PhotoShop.)
I'm certian the layout is similar, though... so it shouldnt be TOO much trouble.
    Probably closer than Gimp.

Also... What kind of skill level do you consider yourself having with PSP?

Good question, I'm also curious, it would get lost in the rest of things.

I had some free time right now, so i decided to post my first thingy here . Move it later ryo!

    Bloom Lightning

Well, heres a technique I kinda like and use a lot, you can use it to make things fuzzy and shiny . You can use it for like lamps and improving stuff generally.

Alright, so, i'll basically take a screenshot from an anime episode (Hurrah Minami Ke!) and open it in photoshop.

1.-Select what you will apply the 'bloom lightning' to. Copy it and create a new Layer and label it "bloom_lightning"(for tutorial purposes, name it however you want )

2.-Select the 'bloom_lightning' layer, and go to filter->blur->gaussian blur. A value of 4-8 should be fine, pick 6 for now.

3.- Be sure you still have 'bloom_lightning' layer selected, and go to Image->Adjustments->Levels. This is where you'll make the 'lightning' as bright as you want, as well ass adding more contrast to the layer. This part is relative, since sometimes you'll want certain results which need way different 'parameters' . Well, in the attached picture you can see my 'parameters'. Dont worry too much though, you'll be able to come back here and mess with them later.

4.- Right, so you basically have your 'bloom_lightning' layer ready for use! The next step is change the layers mode! The selo recommended modes are "overlay", "soft light", "hard light", and "luminosity". All of them offer different looking results, so, be sure to test with all of these to see which you like the most. In the picture here I selected "luminosity", which offered the result i liked the most . Make sure to mess around with the "Fill" and "Opacity" layer properties too!.

Also, if you thought the "bloom_lightning" was too dim or too lightened, you can always go back to Image-Adjustments->Levels and mess around with those parameters. And thats basically how i do my bloom lightning on my avatars/sigs

Heres the original and the end result. Of course, this was done quickly and with a picture that might not be the best for such technique, but it can be very cool if used in the right places

    Original

    End Result

I do pay for things on occasion, Ryo . It makes me feel much less of a leech when I do .

Well, I did make my own sigs.... plus a bunch of others which aren't anywhere but my photobucket accounts (yep.... two accounts ). I'll post 'em later to show what I've done so far .

I still have quite a ways to go though.... I'd say I'm at the low end of intermediate, skills-wise.
