    Windows

(Sorta meant as a response to the OS thread.)
Which of the mentioned windows are you most comfortable with?

    - Windows 7
    - Windows Vista
    - Windows XP
    - Windows 2000
    - Windows ME
    - Windows 98
    - other

I'm Vista oriented myself tbh, although it's still buggy and annoying, i'm too used to it now.

Edit: damn i screw up, accidentally posted this thread before adding the poll

    Gratz

I've jused Vista for some years now and therefore is quite comfortable in it. For the last few months it's been Windows 7 for me <3, so I guess I'll get better in it as well, it's quite similar to Vista in many ways, as well.. I'm probably still best in and most comfortable with XP, though. It's the OS I've used the longest, and I've still got a laptop running it...

I'm still stuck at XP, but with a notebook I'm still satisfied with it, I'm gonna enjoy Windows 7 when I buy a new computer (like never )

pidgin gets the job done, and you don't get the annoying msn perks, like the winks and the nudges . New versions of ubuntu dropped pidgin in favor of empathy, i haven't tried the latter, however.

I never tried empathy, I thought you meant "epiphany" at first Pidgin has the nice feature of all convos in the same window, but I'm just a sucker for the msn skin I guess I tried A-msn, but it sucked. And my notebook is too slow to make wine a reasonable consideration. Have you seen the program "tilda", it adds a terminal to your desktop, it's super neat

what is it with people and polls! Anderson's poll thread, he forgot to add a poll to it, and now Yon as well Tsk.

Still, people should be able to edit their own threads to add polls in... (Thread Tools>Add a Poll to this Thread). Yon, give it a try!

I'm a Mac convert now I don't really use the Windows PCs at home any more, except for when I VPN to work, and I've got VMWare Fusion to run XP with I'm most comfortable with XP, of the options listed. I've used Vista extensively as well as dabbled in Windows 7 (not really got under the hood of that one yet) but don't rate them as highly as I do XP.

That said, the best operating system MS ever made was 2000. Absolutely brilliant, easy to use and simple to sort out if there were problems NT was a bit of a nightmare...

Server side, much the same. I do prefer Server 2003 though. Lots of improvements over 2000.

    Windows 3.1x.

Not quite true, actually. I still use 3.1 almost daily as a platform for text processing; should I use it for collecting and arranging pictures I would probably go nuts. But I appreciate the possibility to use real DOS for a few things, and that is easy with 3.1. When I decide to dump my 3½-inch floppy disks, that will be the end of the 3.1 era in my household, I guess.

Windows 95 introduced some very handy features. I remember Windows 98 essentially as a smoother-running version of 95, but it was also the first OS with which I accessed the Internet from home, and that is not a happy memory. (It was after that I got my first Linux.) In recent years, I have used my friend's Windows XP a lot. I feel relatively comfortable with all of these.

I have also used 3.0, 2000, and at least one pre-2000 version of NT, but they did not feel as good as the above-mentioned ones.

My ME experience is extremely limited. Vista, 7? Have I ever even seen them live?

You can guess twice whether I spend a lot of time on new PC games.

so you decided not to give it a try? I think there might be a time limit on editing threads for Mods and on down. Give it a shot please, next time you're on

I didn't fiddle with dual-booting because it's usually a pain, so OSX is my main system and everything else runs through VM.

You still use 3.1, Kata? I last used that in secondary school, around 15 years ago
