    The Dystopia Club

I have noticed Antmanbee, Neji and Wålf reading literature I like. Well, "Watchmen" might be a borderline case, but the spirit is the same anyway.

This thread is intended for discussion about depictions of dystopia in books and comics. A list of what immediately comes to my mind:

Huxley, Aldous: Brave New World (1932)
    Orwell, George: Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949)
    Bradbury, Ray: Fahrenheit 451 (1953)
Pohl, Frederik - Kornbluth, Cyril M.: The Space Merchants (1953)
    Gibson, William: Neuromancer (1984)
    Rufin, Jean-Christophe: Globalia (2004)

    Please continue from here.

I read Fahrenheit 451 a while back, then read it again for school. An excellent book though my memories of it are somewhat foggy. If Watchmen counts it's one of my favorite books ever, comic or not, it changed the way I look at a lot of things.

Can't think of any other examples haha but yes, dystopian futures always make interesting subjects.

I'll be honest with you Kataja; I don't know anything much about dystopian literature, and Nineteen Eighty-Four is the only book I can remember to have read in the genre. Though I do find the idea intriguing and might look into it some more.

I've watched the Watchmen film, but never read the comic. I decided to read Nineteen Eighty-Four after watching the movie Equilibrium, I didn't like the film much, but found the setting interesting and thus some friends of mine recommended Orwell's book.

I've also played games like Half-Life 2, which are set in a pretty dark and depressive future.
    ...and a hopeful new year!
