I've pondered this myself on occasion, so I have an answer already. O_o;;;
The Egg.
Obviously. That is, if we believe in evolution. (Not nessicaily HUMAN evolution, which I DO believe in, but just evolution in general.)
Over time, animals evolve. They change, due to environment and according to needs.
So, by the standards of Evolution... The EGG came first. Because the egg was the first instance of a chicken as we know it. The creature that LAID the first Chicken Egg, was not a chicken... But a slightly unrefined creature VERY similar to a chicken.
But the egg was laid... And from the egg, grew the Chicken as we know it to be.
Therefore, the Egg came first. ^_^
(I'd LOVE to hear a statement for the other choice... =P)

Well i'd like to think that an animal that wasn't a chicken evolved into a chicken and laid the egg, thus making the answer be the chicken. But this can go both ways eh?
