True, but England doesn't only have Terry as a good leader, Gerard and Beckham both are quite the leaders themselves
Although I'm Brazilian, I will not support the national soccer team. I say this because here in Brazil, there is a true fanaticism by CBF team (National soccer team) what comes to disturb even the lives of those who want to see the country develop. Brazil stops literatty when the National Team plays and I really don't like this kind of obsession.
In South Africa 2010 World Cup, I will support the "Nostra Azzura", the Italian Soccer Team. My Great-Grandmother was from Italy.![]()

hmm. Terry's not exactly done himself any favours with his recent appearances in the media -_- Remains to be seen if he's still our skipper comes the start of the tournament, but I reckon he will be, seeing as how the game no longer believes in proper punishments for any transgression.
I read about that, but thought it was just a figure of speech. I didn't realise that everything stopped.
I haven't followed Italy's progress enough to properly comment, I'm afraid. How are they doing? Are they even anything close to what they were producing 4 years ago?
Hinarei, generally most of the Brazilians stop their activities to watch the team play on TV. When Brazil won a championship, It get to declare unofficial holiday all over the country.
I like soccer, so that twist the largest football club in the Southern Brazil (Grêmio Foot-Ball of Porto Alegre, city near Uruguay). But I will cheer for Italy more because of my ancestry, as my relatives came from there (probably in the province of Trento). I thought of cheering for Argentina or Uruguay, but I believe that the participation of our neighbors will not be that good.
Bah, I wish I lived in a country where football gets the attention it does in brazil, I wouldn't mind getting days off from work in order to watch games
.
I do think Argetina will do alright in the tournament, definitely past the first round; uruguay, hardly, they got mexico in front(and france too!)
Things get pretty extreme even in England, but not to a Brazilian extent.
Also, 'the game' doesn't generally agree with Capello, hina, so I fully expect to see Terry stripped of the armband. If he's dropped, I won't be shocked.

I genuinely will. Under Capello, England are supposedly running a much tighter ship and there's a level of respect in the camp that far outshines Terry's to his team mates :/ Fabio won't hold with what Terry's done, but I doubt he'll say it'll have any bearing on how he performs on the pitch and how he leads the team. I will be properly jiggered if John Terry is not still skippering the side come June 12th.
Yeah, that'd workGerrard or Lampard. Ferdinand's not been up to much lately, Rooney's got the weight of the nation on his shoulders already and England would be loons to make him captain. If I see Beckham as captain I don't know if I could legitimately take England seriously ever again

Yeah, Soccer is very, very popular in Brazil. Every Brazilian has his favourite team and defends with vigor and courage. I, for example, support the Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, of Porto Alegre.
Other popular teams here are the Sao Paulo, Corinthians, Palmeiras (founded by Italian immigrants), Flamengo (Rio de Janeiro), Vasco da Gama, Internacional of Porto Alegre, Bahia, Cruzeiro ... It does occur fights between fans in the stadiums, not unlike the hooligans in Europe.
We also track the teams in Europe, as Arsenal, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Barcelona, PSV Eindhoven, Benfica Lisbon and others.
Brazilian passion for soccer is such that the football team gets to be greeted by hundreds of fans at the airport when winning a tournament. I remember when Brazil won the 2002 World Cup in Japan there was a party at the airport in Rio de Janeiro, It was a parade on the street and many TV appearances.
Which country do you live, friend?
In the best spanish speaking country in the american continent. I do know about the main teams in brazil, i also heard that since robinho didnt perform up to expectations in manchester city, he's going back to Santos so he can be in a good level for the WC

Lampard seems sensible? As a Hammers fan, that's not a phrase that's going to pass my fingers any time soon, but he may well be our best bet. Of the famously rotated captains, Ferdinand's out, so's Beckham (please), Terry and now Gerrard. Doesn't leave us with many more to choose from![]()
If Beckham was a cert to start every game, I'd have him as captain in a second. He's a perfect fit; it's clear how much the England team means to him.
I reckon it's time for a change of captain after the tournament, though. Someone young.

Current pick for the big gold thing: Spain, if Torres, Villa and Iniesta stay fit. They're usually a top pick for every tournament they enter but are the perennial under-achievers. Well, they won the Euros, and if they emulate the French I can see them having no problem winning the World Cup (who needed home advantage to do this in '98 & 2000.. admittedly the other way round)
if history has taught us something about spain, is that they always do terrible in the world cup, this year won't be an exception
Also, regarding Terry, i thought i had read earlier today that he wasn't stepping down as cap'n?

he won't be stepping down until he's spoken to Capello, is what I've heard. If the boss doesn't want him to step down, he won't. So as well as being a money-grabbing shadyperson, he's determined to be a great role model for everyone and a picture of how to behave with dignity.
Then again, no footballer has ever professed to be a paragon of virtue. I mean, just look at previous captains: Wright, Moore, Shearer, Robson... they're nothing to look up to either![]()
Other than mistaking his feet for his elbows for the last 5 years of his career and boring the hell out of the nation for the 5 years since, what's Shearer done wrong?
