"Reckon" itd be a good idea to have a 'general football talk' thread where we could discuss regular occurrences such as englands shameful captain acts but specific ones like this one regarding big events?

This is all relevant o_O Pertaining to England's projected performance at the big do. If we don't have a captain we can rely on, we'll do even worse than we expect toI get yer point though.
Me too, but this is definitely related stuff. Capello's whole team ethic is in jeopardy :s

Just seems this respect doesn't extend to all team mates...
I just read that it was decided that he was resigning as captain. What's wrong with Terry, by the way? There was that thing where he offered club visits and sold his reserved place in the wembley stadium for extra money, does he need extra money? or did he have a really hard childhood
?

I don't know, to be honest. I can't think of a realistic reason he'd be doing this sort of thing (all the money stuff). He is on epic amounts of money for doing what he does...
I'm sorry we're talking about England so much in this thread. I've far more to say on them than any other country in the tournament though.
I am very worried about the event in South Africa, following the shooting in Angola and the way the Togo team have since been handed. If this was going to be held anywhere else you'd have similar concerns over potential disruption, as no country can be totally safe because there are always idiots, especially in football. Just this turned up at a higher profile time than it could otherwise have done. Not that I'm calling this "bad timing"...
Well, isn't it the same as saying "Whoa, its dangerous to go to the WC because its in South Korea & Japan, you know how that's on the same continent as North Korea and China!" ? Angola is a bit far from South Africa, I'm sure its not the same situation in the two countries, so I'm certain they'll be safe; since they'll be kinda paranoid due to the togo shooting, they will be extra careful I think.

I know. It's silly, and calls for the World Cup competition to be called off after the incident were not thought through. Understandably, the team went home, and it was good that the Cup was completed, but this shouldn't overshadow the events of the summer.
"We can't stage the competition at all, because a fruit stall was overturned in a Moroccan market!" would be extreme, but this is just health and safety gone mad™
I'm sure security will be higher now than they'd originally planned it to be, but the English media had expressed concerns about the 'lawlessness' of many of the host cities even before this came up.
What you seem to be missing is that, unlike Japan, Korea, and just about any other country the World Cup's been staged in, South Africa does has a very high violent crime rate. People will definitely have to be more vigilant than they would in Europe, for example, especially if they're drunk and carrying money.

The next World Cup will be in Brazil and the country is not as violent as the world press says. Is occurring rather a conflict between drug traffickers and police cops in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro (and far from the sights), but our cities are not like Baghdad or Berlin during World War II. The country has a high crime rate, but do not live any bloody war. I, for one, never saw a scene of violence in the streets. In Brazil, you only die violently when you are enrolling in the drug trade or adultery.

Hum, sure? I like Venezuela, but I only hate Hugo Chavez. He pumped out a French supermarket chain just because they don't lowered their prices (the country has high inflation) and also said the Haiti Earthquake caused by weapons tests by the U.S.A. This man is crazy and the worst is the ****ing President of Brazil is your ally.
As is the region today, I can see a great future only in four countries: Brazil, Mexico, Uruguay and Chile.

Let's keep politics out of here, though. That can go in the Serious Stuff Forum.
