Yikes, Mexico got a tough group, but I think we'll pull through. These are the teams that I think will make it to the 2nd round
Group A
1st France
2nd Mexico
Group B
1st Argentina
2nd Nigeria
Group C
1st England
2nd Algeria
Group D
1st Germany
2nd Ghana
Group E
1st Netherlands
2nd Cameroon
Group F
1st Italy
2nd Paraguay
Group G
1st Brazil
2nd Portugal
Group H
1st Spain
2nd Chile
Hmm, I think we'll either win by one goal or draw, then a win vs uruguay and possibly (at best) a draw vs france.
You guys clearly don't folloow the copa America (Americas version of the euro cup). Anyways, recent history shows our dominance over Uruguay (we're usually 3rd behind Argentina and brazil)
how do you think the England/Netherlands teams will do?
I recon England's in a fairly easy group, I'll be surprised if we don't see them at the head of it.
As for the other team's I'm a bit outdated when it comes to National Teams, but my guess would be:
Group A
-Mexico
-France
Group B
-Argentina
-Greece
Group C
-England
-Slovenia
Group D
-Germany
-Serbia
Group E
-Netherlands
-Denmark
Group F
-Italy
-Paraguay
Group G (This one'll turn out interesting, I'm sure)
-Brazil
-Portugal
Group H
-Spain
-Chile
No particular order, just the two teams I think will advance from each group.
OK, current predos. These may change slightly nearer to actual kick-off in June.
Group A
-France
-Uruguay
Group B
-Argentina
-Nigeria
Group C
-England
-USA
Group D
-Germany
-Ghana
Group E
-Netherlands
-Denmark
Group F
-Italy
-Slovakia
Group G
-Brazil
-Ivory Coast
Group H
-Spain
-Chile
I honestly don't see Mexico getting past the group stage. I don't say that to merely be flippant to selo, but I reckon Uruguay will get through as well as the Frogs (which will pain the Republic). England's group... we're going to top it, even if it's by goal difference. I can see Ghana, Nigeria and Ivory Coast all getting through their groups, along with the bigger European teams, and I do hope Portugal don't get through (Sorry Chao-chaaaaan!). Brazil, if they can be bothered, will walk their group.
oh, they'll win one of their group games. They usually do. Might be a deciding factor in how it turns out, but I can't see them getting beyond their group. I hope they don't, either. I don't want France to get through, or Argentina, or the US, or Germany... but they all will![]()
Uruguay is playing pretty badly, I mean, if its not france-mexico the ones that are making it to the next round, its probably gonna be france-south africa, uruguay will be last of group![]()
I reckon they'll be second. Don't know why, just something in my water tells me so
The Dutch might get to the semis but they'll struggle to get further than that. They've got the best record of European nations in the qualifiers (I think, they certainly qualified first), but tend to struggle more than Germany but less than England in the actual tournaments.
we've supposedly got a real leader, in Terry. He's supposed to be embodying the spirits of great England captains of the past like Moore, Wright and Pearce, and he's been a bit blood and thunder in the past, but not really driven us places yet. Our best bet as captain for the last few years though.
As for teamwork, England in Germany 2006 were supposed to fulfil the promise of the so-called "golden generation" of players, but they got through to the quarters again and no further. Our trouble is we've got players who want to win the game on their own but aren't good enough to do so, or at least haven't shown that in tournaments. A good record in qualifying, as Romania, Holland, Spain as well as England in the past have all shown us, counts for nothing in the competition proper.
