wasn't aware of this, no, but I can't say I'm surprised.

Gimme news, selo! I don't want a non-story like this

So... should we all go out and nab a distro then?

I personally have an XP tower and an ME tower. I tried to get XP on Mum's new laptop, but se saw Vista and liked it, so we went for that instead. Got a Mac laptop and a SUSE box as well kinda running the whole spectrum here

I'm more Mac-based now, meself, though we're an entirely Windows house at work. When worlds collide

32 bit vista is shit. 64 bit is not so much. Ubuntu is nice for being free. XP is decent.
Computers can do a lot more when you set them up yourself. If anyone is doing accounting work and whatnot I'd suggest Ubuntu no doubt.
The only real problem I have at the moment is that I use PCs with the intent of gaming. While Ubuntu does have WINE, I'm afraid the compatibility with newer products just doesn't suit my needs.
Ubuntu is definately worth checking out though.

Vista works. That's about all you can say about it. I don't much like it nd want to hold out on upgrading for as long as I can

well, it's a move to Windows 6, which is upgrading from 5.1 (XP), so technically it's an upgrade.

I've yet to see Windows 7, but they're a bit iffy on their working titles, ain't they?

I'd stick with the former before I give my input. 32 bit Vista not detecting above 4 gigs of ram is bullshit though.

You only don't need them because you don't know what they are. The process of upgrading will continue as so, regardless of if it's the Windows company that pushes the next innovations through or not.

64-bit and above can handle more memory :O We tried implementing 64-bit XP at work without really understanding why Fair old failure, I have to say I reckon we're going to be skipping Vista unless we're forced to upgrade... took us ages to get from Windows 2000 to XP, actually.
