Thread: Dvorak

In a moment of frantically scrabbling round for something to stop me from getting something useful done, I stumbled upon the idea of learning to type with Dvorak. It's meant to be faster, after all, and it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Anyone else proficient/interested?

I've got a load of bad habits when I type Qwerty, though. I hardly ever use my little fingers, and my hands stray off the home keys far too often. I feel like it might be good to learn technique again, somehow.

I might be interested in knowing another layout (that isn't language specific) if only I could find an affordable keyboard or nice looking key overlay (they all look crap). Ripping out the keys on my MacBook isn't something I'd be comfortable with

Dvorak goes against my QWERTY mindset. It's so ingrained and in use everywhere I've seen a keyboard that the switch is something that many people have understandably resisted.

Mind you, I did see a keyboard on a shop till computer that was A-Z o_O really struggled to use that one >_<

I actually ripped the keys out of my bluetooth keyboard, since it's old and I hardly ever use it. Not that you really need to change the layout to learn it. If you're touch-typing anyway then you're better off learning by only looking at the screen. That's how I'm going about it, at least.

That was my first thought, too. -_- The rest of this thread I do not grasp. I am a techno-peasant..

Wonder how the Dvorak experiment went. We'll need Betong's input on this

I've not really seen all that many Dvorak boards around for sale (though a quick google disproves this, online at any rate). QWERTY is notoriously inefficient, involving lots of stretches for common words that can be uncomfortable unless you type in exactly the right way. I'm happy with it though and won't be changing any time soon

Oh, and it's been said, but 'tis worth checking the forum first. Sorry to disappoint. You could start a Dvorak thread in Music, see if that takes off any better
