    Tuning It Down

Due to real-life stuff (and common sense?!), I am compelled to ration the number and duration of my visits to this forum.

Don't get me wrong. AnimeB is still my favorite place online, as it has been for a few years now. Currently only Danbooru can compare, and I cannot get my fix of social life there. (And they do not have a blogging feature. )

This change in policy might even mean, at times, that I will be dropping by more frequently than I have.

However, as I need to choose what I browse during each visit, and because AnimeB does not keep track of unread threads, I will be missing, as in not even noticing, more topics in the future.

Thus I kindly request that those of you who know my tastes and interests well, if you think I have missed something relevant, please, please notify me through profile messaging or private messaging.

Special thanks to Antmanbee for his recent blogging -- one more reason for me to stay hooked on this board!

    Best regards,

    Katz

    PS. Pantsu!!

I think you've missed something relevant..

The little button named: 'New Posts'?

This nifty little feature of amazing technology has the ability to actually tell you which threads have new posts, which includes new threads, since your last visit. (please note that logging in and not logging out, then revisiting the site within a short notice might cause the displayed threads to be old.)

No anderson, that does not keep track of unread threads, it just shows you which contain new posts since your last visit. Even if you don't read every topic listed there, next time you vist, they won't appear there, so it is possible to miss things if you don't check all the new stuff on every visit.

Oh, you mean *everything* you haven't read.. Basically I just post in what I find interesting, then check specific sub-forums if I feel like it..

so, from what I can gather, we're not worth your time? I see this as really weak reasoning, Kata. But if it helps you get more out of the scary outside world known as "real life", then good luck to you

It's always been manageable for you before, I would have thought. Just that vB is defaulted to keeping an active session for only 15 minutes then booting you, which clears your cookies. Logging out clears your cookies too. I've not known it do anything else in my time here, so the fact that its taken you four years to say you're not putting up with it any more is strange. I know you've raised the point before, but I think it's just a habit thing. I assumed that once you'd gotten used to the way it worked (as most of the rest of us seem to have done) it wouldn't be an issue

Does this need changing, folks, d'you think?

I dunno, I suppose a feature that keeps track of all unread threads could be handy.. You know, something you click that gives you a nice tidy list of all the topics there are where you haven't looked yet. Preferably with filter or sorting fields

Well, if something like "max. one hour a day, even if there are interesting unread threads, plus some blogging" equals "leaving"...

This was supposed to be a very busy week. Then I got shivers and my temperature rose to 38.1 °C (100.6 °F). Just now this looks like a very sleepy week.

And no, Hinarei. The day I get used to the feeling that someone bumps a three-week-old topic full of win I have never paid any attention to -- that is when you should be worried, because that will mean the board is not so important to me any more. I learned my foruming habits elsewhere.

But in my first years on AnimeB, my perfectionism used to cause long hiatuses, so something has changed.

Selo, thanks so much for pointing out what I meant!

I never want you (or anyone else) to lose interest in the forums, as you put it. Keeping looking for the win, because it's bound to turn up

You sound like you've got a very sleepy weak ahead of you. That's horrible. And weird, because here the weather's warming up. You shouldn't be coming down with a temperature when the weather's turning warmer

We could look at playing with the session settings, but I doubt there's anything that can be controlled on a per-user level.

I don't do it to everybody Just, uh, most people. I don't even mean to do it though, it just happens. It wouldn't happen if we could keep interest :/

he does, but we all have our quirks and preferences. I know this, because if not, the NBB wouldn't likely exist

Please specify, then I might be able to tell whether I have been aware of my curiosities.

I think Betong is referring to the manner in which you've described your checking of new and interesting posts I've said before elsewhere that even though I usually don't have the time to, I tend to poke around almost everywhere on here (except Roleplaying) for interesting stuff to reply to, so even though I do use subscriptions and the new posts feature (which is, I'll agree, annoyingly inconsistent and woefully reliant on the cookie time), I'll normally find a thread in the fullness of time

I suppose the thing that seems 'curious' is how much you care about threads and subjects you find interesting. Most people sort of dip in and out, but you've got a very intense concentration at times. It's nice.

I do not think I have realised just how curious that might appear.

It is partly about how I interpret other people. When two or three other active members start speaking about some past fun or incidents as widely known subjects, and without giving any links, my automatic reaction is like, "I would never word it like that -- unless I was completely sure everybody else was clear of those things. How come all here have browsed that thread except me?"

I may come to my senses and take a more realistic look at it a bit later, but when this reacting mode is always "on", it definitely affects my browsing habits.

Other reasons behind my ways include general scrupulosity with hobbies and an exaggerated feeling of responsibility about being a (lesser) staff member.

I have a friend who beats even me when it comes to the latter. We used to be fellow moderators on another board. When the atmosphere got ruined enough, it was me who first gave up trying to view almost everything. She still felt obliged to stay aware of what was going on, even though few of the new posts were of any interest to her any more.
