    Life Lost A La Lodge

They say no good deed goes unpunished…

And so I’m afraid that it’s time for RDKnightZac to get his just deserts. I enjoyed reading the short horror story he wrote with me as the main character. It was enjoyable even though I had some misgivings before I read it due to looking in the SuuBox and seeing the discussion they were having about it. My fears were pretty much unfounded and so I won’t be as evil as I could have been to him.

That Doesn’t mean I’ll be all bunny rabbits and flower fields. In fact, good luck finding any. This is a Horror story even though it may not seem like one for quite a while. I would also like to point out that this is a several part story and so you will have to wait to find out things that may be bugging you.

Oh and before I post more I need to know what you think so far and any possible ideas.

Any and all mistakes – grammar, speellling and otherwise – are mine. Please don’t kill me for them!

This is a work of fiction. All the characters and events portrayed in this work are either products of the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously.

If you want to read it the way it's meant to be contact me and I'll end you the document. I had formatting the site doesn't like

They had all come into the mountains for some well deserved rest. The only sounds in the forest were that of the birds and the sound the group made as they trudged through it. They were tired, hungry and sore with only the promise that they would soon be at their destination keeping them going.
“So somebody want to explain how we all agreed to this? We must have all been taken by a fit of insanity.” Zac complained again to the air in an aggrieved voice.
“Shut Up!” came the reply from almost everyone else in the group. Tempers were beginning to show and someone surely would have snapped if they hadn’t suddenly broken out of the treeline and seen the massive wooden Lodge they had all chipped in to hire for the next seven days.
Cries of joy rang out spontaneously. And all of them except for Hinarei put in a burst of speed in order to reach the lodge first. Hinarei had stopped instead to take in the place where they would be staying. The Lodge had been built 20 years ago according to the real estate agent and Hinarei had been surprised at the low amount required to rent it for the week. Being the only one with an interest in financial matters he had pointed it out to the others and had said it would be much better than the seaside holiday house they had been drooling over in the corner of the real estate agent’s building.
Now that he surveyed it he was even more surprised that it had been available to them for such a cheap price. It was situated in a natural clearing two thirds the way up the mountain. He realised that one of the downsides to it was that it was so far away from anywhere with the nearest town being over an hours drive and the fact that they had no reception for their phones was also a little worrying. However they had wanted peace and quiet a long way from civilisation and so the place was perfect for that.
On the other side of the Lodge there was supposed to be a natural lake that was rather big and perfect for swimming. Though Hina did have a suspicion that the water would be icy cold and the perfect way to wake people up. His lips curved in anticipation of the evil trick he had just started to envisage.
    ***

Zet had been the first one to make it into the lodge after he unlocked it and had stopped in the doorway to stare in appreciation at the the open lounge with it’s big fireplace. He was so oblivious to the fact that he was blocking the doorway that it came as a huge surprise when Ryo pushed him so hard from behind that he fell face first onto the carpet that covered most of the floor. He noticed that it was long and luxuriously soft and made a muffled yell to the others to take off their boots before they came in.
He heard some chattering behind him and the thumps of boots and bags hitting the ground outside and then realised too late in horror that the chattering that he had heard was Ryo discussing with the others a plan to hurdle the unmoving lump of Zet on the floor. “No! Don’t!” he cried but it was too late as the others leapt over him one by one. They were all standing in the middle of the room when Zet stopped cowering in fear, and then Zet realised with further horror that Ryo wasn’t among them.
The breath rushed out of Zet in an explosive rush as Ryo jumped on top of Zet’s bags for a moment then leapt off again. Unfortunately for Ryo he managed to get his foot caught in a strap on the bag and had himself thrown off balance as he leapt. He landed in a sprawl a few meters in front of Zet to the laughter of all the people in the room. Zet also started to laugh once he got his breath back.
Hina in the mean time had finished his appraisal of the outside and after seeing Zet’s feet with his boots still on decided to take advantage of it he creeped up behind zet, crouched, and pulled the feather duster out of the side pocket of his bag. He then yanked off Zet’s boot and the sock after and threw them to the side as quick as possible due to the rank stench that was a result of the two hour hike they had made to get there. Then taking Zet’s ankle in a vice grip he applied himself to the time honoured tradition of foot tickling with his feather duster.
Zet had tried to keep his hypersensitivity to tickling a secret from Hinarei, who was almost infamous for his tickling exploits, yet he hadn’t taken into account Hina’s almost supernatural sense for finding ticklish people. While Hina had suspected that Zet was ticklish he hadn’t had a chance to try out his hypothesis and now that he had he decided that waiting had been worth it in this case. Zet was laughing so hard after just a few moments of Hina’s tickling that he had started to cry to the total confusion of all those already inside. The way Hina was crouching behind Zet and his bag hid him from the view of those inside and when Zet managed to get enough breath to shriek at Hina telling him to stop they were all confused as to why Zet was screaming “Stop It!!!” in such a breathless voice.
Hinarei heard the shriek and shrugged it off as he continued to apply his trade. Then he realised that the breathlessness of the shriek showed that he may be going that little too far he had been accused of before. So deciding to make good his getaway the ‘tickle monster’, as he was occasionally called, carefully let go of Zet’s ankle and crouch walked to the side for a few meters. Then he clambered to his feet and dashed around the side of the building to make good his escape.
Zet had finally managed to get some of his breath back and gasped out to the concerned faces of those around him “Someone… Was… Tickling me.” He then collapsed face down on the soft carpet and resolved to move once he got his breath back.
    ***

Selo had decided to explore the lodge and stepped away from the crowd clustered around Zet to have a look-see. Turning to take in the lounge he noticed the smooth interlocking stone fronting the large open fireplace and strolled over to further investigate. Inside the fireplace wood and kindling was set up so that it would catch fire quickly and provide greater warmth than if the wood was piled haphazardly, as always when he saw this sort of set-up for logs he had an internal vision of a Tee-Pee with a ring of fire around it.
This well prepared future fire met the approval rating of Selo’s inner Boy Scout, he had been a Cub Scout and then had moved onto Boy Scouts before reaching the age where he considered that stuff childish and had quit. It had set him up well for camping trips and some of the habits that he had picked up then had not faded despite quite a few years since he had been one.
Standing up again he made his way to one of the three doorways out of the room other than the entrance where Zet was still collapsed with people clambering over him. Selo’s bare feet luxuriated in the softness of the dark green carpet that blended with the mud brick and wooden walls. He noted the lounges and armchairs of the room as he weaved through them and was already trying to come up with a seating arrangement for when he forced everyone to sit through his one man rendition of the Transformers movie. Knowing it was childish, part of him cringed in anticipation and yet he felt that the laughs of the others as they relaxed and watched him make a fool of himself would be well worth the humiliation.
The door that was to the left of the main entrance was his first target and he passed through to find himself in a trophy room. There were dead animal skins and mounted heads covering the walls except for the stained glace window that took up most of the wall to his left. Looking up Selo was shocked to find the most unspeakable of horrors hanging from the ceiling amongst a large collection of animal tails. A squeak emerged from Selo as he tore his eyes away from the horribly scary collection above him and he attempted to find a way to shut out the horrors within. He found the door swung back so that it was almost parallel to the wall on his right and he grabbed the edge of the door and tiptoed out of the room until the door had about a foot to go before he yanked it towards him and let go of the door so that it slammed. The door had no handle on it and he realised with a sigh of relief that to open the door would require the key, which he was pretty sure they had not gotten from the real estate agent seeing as the lock was different to that of the front door. Resolving to talk to the other guys about this horror of a room he travelled off to continue exploring
As he went off he didn’t notice the sinister, sickly green glow shining very faintly from the door for a moment.

Lock, that was beautiful. I'm really at a loss for words, all I can say is great job and feel free to post this and the rest in my corner, because I'd be honored to have this kind of quality grace it.

So I read most of this last night... But didn't get around to finishing just now...

    Very nice set up... =P

Nice to see that most of the same characters from Zac's story were used again, with the exception of you and KK being replaced with Zac and Z.

Good set up... I look forward to seeing where this goes... O_o
(And, subsequently, what gruesome things befall me. =P)

    Part 2

After Zet had managed to gasp out the name of Hinarei as the cause of his laughter, Sarah decided that she might as well hunt down her wayward boyfriend. She had as wicked a sense of humour as Hina and shivered with delight as she contemplated the fact that they should have so many options to perform evil pranks and ambush people to tickle them. Sarah couldn’t wait and in order to begin planning immediately pushed her way through the group at the door so that she was able to go outside.
Once she was outside Sarah had no idea as to where the hell her Hina had stolen away to. She paused for a moment in order to put on her boots again and locate some key items in her bag that she believed would be very useful for some tricks shortly. Then she set off to her right, with no idea that the male she was searching for had gone around the other way.
Sarah was making her way around the corner when she noticed out of the corner of her eye that two of the others had also come outside. She had a suspicion that it was Zac with his girlfriend Emma and that they would soon be following her on her mission. What she doubted they expected though was that she had the makings of an ambush with her, as well as the fully developed urge to carry one out.
    ***

Emma was unsure of how she had been convinced by her boyfriend to come along on this trip. Unlike Zac who was quite confident with other people as well as being very at ease in conversation, she was shy and ill at ease with other people, including her friends. Despite her shyness she did get along with them, it was just that she did not often contribute in conversations with them.
So when they had invited her along with Zac on this trip she had surprised herself by agreeing almost immediately to com. She usually deliberated for quite some time before agreeing to anything short of the greatest of all things.
    Shopping.
When it came to shopping she underwent a complete change in her personality. Emma became incredibly forward and animated on her shopping expeditions, for expeditions they were. With her chocolate brown eyes shining from within, she moved purposefully from shop to shop and her short length, caramel brown hair would end up sticking out in all directions. It would be due to her habit of running her hands through it when she was exasperated, usually from the lack of compromise on price that the shops she entered would develop as a defence against her haggling.
Despite her ruminations upon the subject though she hadn’t a clue why she had come, unless the sly thought at the back of her mind was correct when it said that she had just been waiting for an invitation to let loose rather that having to be convinced. Furthermore, to her surprise, she had been enjoying herself so far even with the long drive before the two hour hike to get to the lodge. Zac, who had complained the whole way had been astounded at how easily she made the hike and had said so. What she had been wondering though was why he hadn’t realised that she walked further when she went out shopping.
Convincing Zac to come outside after she saw Sarah leave the lodge for some reason had not been difficult to do despite hiding her real reason for it. She was curious as to why Sarah had left yet her real reason was to give Zet and Kaitlin some more privacy seeing as it could be a valuable commodity and they might return the favour later. Also it was only fair after the Hina attack of before as well as the hurdling incident. As for Kiyori and Ryo, they would hopefully take the hint and remove themselves elsewhere too.
As they had no idea what could be on the ground around the lodge they replaced their boots as a precaution even with the urge to go bare foot on the grass. Once she had done so she took a moment to sit on the edge of the raised platform in front of the door to the interior and checked her watch. It was a gift from Zac for her birthday that had been just a month ago and as always enchanted her despite being simple looking was beautiful with its discreet gems and elegant lines. It showed her that there had only been 15 minutes that had passed since they had left the forest except she felt as if it had been much longer.
A slight breeze had risen since they had arrived at the lodge which alleviated the leaded feel the air had carried as they hiked which left her wondering if fate, or the gods, or whatever was out there found perverse pleasure in watching hikers struggle with lack of circulating air. The breeze wasn’t very strong and the only effect if had upon the forest was to make the leaves rustle with a gentle sussurussing sound that seemed to sooth any problems away.
Zac came over to sit beside her for awhile and they shared a private intimate moment before rising without words at the same time to go follow Sarah around the corner to their right that they had seen her flitting around as they came out.
    ***

Zac counted himself lucky to have such a beautiful girlfriend. She was shy and refused to believe him when he told her so yet he found that just another part of her charm. Sitting with her in silence and just enjoying each others company was something he found priceless and worth taking time to do no matter whether he had an excuse or not.
While Emma had been lost in thought on the edge of the platform he had been retrieving the parts for one of his prized possessions. His paintball rifle. Disassembled was how he had packed it and once he had retrieved the pieces he took a few moments to reassemble it so that he had a fully functional payback device. Zet was one of his best friends and in Zac’s opinion came first compared to Hinarei so in this case revenge was required for Hina’s actions. He couldn’t let Hina get away with doing such a despicable thing to Zet; he had attacked Zet while he was down! Such a thing was going too far even if it was in the pursuit of laughter.
His paintball gun had a strap and so Zac had slung his rifle so that the handle was reachable over his left shoulder and the body of the paintball weapon went crossways with the front end of the rifle roughly behind his right hip. As they got up to follow the deceitful and mischievous girlfriend of Hinarei Emma noticed that he had retrieved his non-lethal weapon of choice and only raised an eyebrow before gesturing Zac ahead. He was determined to meet any… Pranksters with the muzzle of his… not so deadly paint spraying machine.
They passed a stained glass window before they got to the corner Sarah had disappeared around yet their eyes slid off it with uninterest and they failed to note the light that seemed to shine from the room inside. Coming through the glass it lost most of its colouring yet it still had a sense of the sinister associated with it, much like the light that Selo failed to note as he walked away from the door to that room at that very moment.

But Last night that all Changed!

    woo-hoo!

here we go with part 3

Though I will mention that while this one is mostly light heated and unlike the other two doesn't mention the light... The NEXT instalment which I'll have done soon Will likely get further into describing the gory aspects I know some of you want.

    __________________________________________________ _______

Zet suddenly found that Kaitlin and himself were the only people in the room as he sat up and he didn’t have the slightest inkling as to where everyone had gone. He’d been too involved in getting his breath back after the vicious attack carried out upon him. ‘That blasted Hina’ was the main thing on his mind after the brit had dared to tickle attack him. ‘Him and that ever-be-damned Ryo had to have been planning that!’

He didn’t even know where Ryo had stolen away to after tripping on Zet’s bag though he suspected Ryo had gone exploring for the kitchen that Zet just knew he’d take for his demesne. After all it was Ryo who’d planned out the menu and all ‘though why’d he have to pack so much food in all our bags?!’

Then suddenly conscious of the fact that it was Kaitlin he was alone in the room with he blushed furiously. He couldn’t help it she was that damned beautiful and he felt always felt a total fool in her presence. Zet couldn’t even work out how he’d managed to work up the nerve to invite her along when he hadn’t been able to ask her on a date before. Kaitlin agreeing to come had been totally unexpected. Did he have a chance with her? And had he just ruined it with the events of the doorway? The burning clouds of depression and shame began to gather in his mind.

She turned and smiled at him and it was as if the sun had just evaporated the clouds to mere wisps that could be forgotten. He knew he was irrevocably in a funk over her striking good looks.

    ***

Kiyori was standing just inside the third doorway out of the room and had the perfect vantage point to see what was going on. She’d noticed Selo’s abortive exploration of the room to the left of the main entrance and was curious as to what had fazed the unshakeable Selo so badly, however she wasn’t curious enough to go over and possibly ruin the moment brewing between Kaitlin and Zet. Though she wished she was at the second doorway Selo was disappearing through as she leaned on the frame of her door.

Ryo had passed through this particular door about five seconds ahead of her yet he had been on a mission to find the kitchen. She had just been giving the potential couple space and if she’d had a chance she would have gone for a different door. Agreeing to come on this journey was a mistake as far as she was concerned at the moment. The arguments with Ryo had started shortly after the trip had been planned and she couldn’t let the others down.

Though she wished she had now seeing as the arguments had escalated in the past three weeks before they came here. Kiyori wanted desperately to make it up with him yet she couldn’t get near him when they were alone without either of them starting the arguments again.

‘Is she? Omigoron... she is. Go Girl!’ she exclaimed within he mind as what Kaitlin was doing finally shone through her musing.

Not wanting to feel like a voyeur though Kiyori turned around with the resolute resolve to find Ryo and the kitchen he had surely claimed by now. ‘Has to be here somewhere...’

    ***

Kaitlin wished Zet would wake up and smell the rose that she certainly knew she was. She’d been hinting that they could hook up for months and until five weeks ago she hadn’t achieved Anything. At. All. And now he’d frozen up in a bemused stare when she smiled at him which together with the total forced ignorance he’d affected on the hike... What did she have to do? Hit him blatantly with her sexuality?

She decided to try that. Maybe it’d work where nothing else had. She slinked over to where he was shrugging his travel pack off while he arranged himself into a meditation pose. Then defying all the conventions of hooking the guys she slid onto his lap and straddled his lap while staring determinedly into his eyes.

Zet froze rigid in shock underneath her yet it didn’t thaw into the reaction she wanted. He almost seemed to turn into a terrified animal as he suddenly bucked wildly and flinging her backwards as he sprung back until he collided with the front of the door. Their eyes sprung together with lightning ferocity.

Moments later she snapped her eyes shut in defence against what she envisioned to be in his eyes.

‘Why can’t he notice me in the way I want... It hurts when he doesn’t.’

As she started to let her incredibly fragile self-esteem fracture again after managing to hold it rigid for the last months tears began dribbling through her tightly clenched eyelids and suppressed sobs started to fracture the shreds of composure that were the last fragments armouring her psyche.

    ***

Hina could tell that Sarah had to be following and seeing a slight alcove in the wooden logs making up the back wall of the lodge. He’d circled around the lodge and found that it was even large that he had thought it was when he’d been checking it out at the realtor, in fact he was pretty sure it even had a basement. This though was a hypothesis at this point until he had a chance to investigate further.

Pressing himself into the alcove and being glad that he’d worn brown semi-camouflage clothing he waited for Sarah to turn the corner. The alcove Hinarei was in was some three meters from the corner and by some miracle fluke in the construction was enough to hide him from sight when combined with his clothing.

    ‘There she is!’

Sarah walked past his lurking place and he leapt out at her back with his trusty feather sword in hand. He knew where she was most ticklish and he with the amount of times he had ambushed her he definitely knew where her weak points were.

“Gotcha” he crowed just that little too early and alerted her to his nefarious scheme. She turned.

Hina tried to stop or wrench himself to the side yet it was too late. All he could do was close his eyes.

Paint reached out like a demonic, bloody hand of hell.

Spitting the little bit that had worked its way into his mouth from the force of the throw out he spluttered “I didn’t factor that outcome into this...” as the sound of her laughter filled the air like honey could stop up his mouth. He could hear naught other than her hilarity.

well... I actually did this the night after the last one. Got convinced to let people take in the last so that is why I didn't post it till now.

it was going to be Sarah behind the paint. then Zac misread it and it was better.

oh and you get gore and some development. Dunno if it makes sense though...

An interesting fact that Hina had only just caught at the last second was that it wasn’t actually Sarah who got him. It was Zac, after all, who owned the paintball gun. She was known for being devious and as such had used that deviousness in the effort of recruiting Zac in the evil idea she had come up with.

Zac had dashed his way around the other side of the building and hid in the trees behind where Sarah had the suspicion that Hinarei would be hiding. Then when the expected ambush actually happened she was to spin and pretend to be throwing something while Zac with his fiendishly accurate shooting would fire with his temporarily powered down paintball rifle. It was an evil plan she was justly proud of.

What Zac and his other half Emma hadn’t come around the first corner early enough to notice was that she had set up a trap almost at the second corner, around which Hina had been planning his ambush. She couldn’t wait until Emma came towards the sound of her laughter and fell into her truly fiendish trap.

Ryo had found his kitchen. And boy was it a good kitchen indeed. With all the elements an aspiring chef could want, such as a top of the range gas oven and the truly beautiful coffee machine with the special tea making attachments, he was in heaven. Now if only he could resolve the problems he and Kiyori were experiencing at the moment.

Not knowing what topic of discussion had sparked their ever expanding arguments was horrible, yet he did know one thing.

He felt truly miserable for the first time since he got grounded without access to technology for half a year when he’d still been living with his parents and before Kiyori had become part of his life. She was too good to be real he still thought on occasion and yet he was certain the arguments had originated with her.

Unconsciously as he surveyed his new domain he was leaning on and fondling the convenient statue someone had left for such an occasion like Ryo’s ascension to the throne room of ‘middle of nowhere kitchens of beauty’ as his mind labelled it.

Seeing as he never actually looked down at what he was leaning on the fact that he missed the eye sockets glowing sickly green for a moment was forgivable. And the fact that the kitchen was so obviously all he desired could explain why he didn’t notice the slight tingle as a spark the same horrible colour as the eye sockets had glowed jumped to his hand.

Yet to the non-corporeal watcher the fact that this intruder to the lodge didn’t realise he was fondling a skull even when his fingers strayed into the eye sockets was inconceivable. The bemused man was leaning on a horribly disfigured skeleton of someone who had clearly been tortured before they died. The watcher couldn’t understand the total lack of recognition.

Selo meantime had managed to explore roughly half the lodge in his estimation by this point. However he’d just found a secret staircase that led downstairs when he tried to pick up the one book he’d found on so far that had been lying forlornly on one of the bookshelves that covered the walls of a room he believed must have been a library.

‘Fortunately the bookwyrm isn’t here to see this or he’d be in tears by now. He truly does deserve that nickname what with how much he loves all bloody books.’ Selo mused to himself. ‘Fortunately, I suppose, he begged off attending this trip. Though I’d like to know what the hell he meant when he said he was too busy in “ideation.” Wonder which one of the tongues of insanity he was speaking in when he came up with that...’

The lure of secret rooms being too strong to resist caused Selo to give into the temptation to explore it’s murky depths.

    ***

Meanwhile deep within the basement the sound of dripping was slowly driving the shattered wreck manacled to the surgeons table further on the road of insanity. Time had lost all meaning to the breathing corpse who had no idea how long this had been the case and time was only given any meaning to him at all by the metronomic plop made by the splash of liquid striking liquid.

It was blood. However he was too far gone to realise this. In fact it was his blood which had amused the creator of such mastery no end. For the level of torture that had gone into the body was so far beyond a science that it was either art or some twisted form of sacrificial magic, either of which could be considered mastery regardless.

Scattered here and there were butchered knuckle bones that had the potential to have been parted with their host by the sticky, dull butter knife cast carelessly aside. When the wreck was studied it would dawn on the already horrified surveyor that half an arm and a foot had been torn off the body with great force and when they realised the cracked, marrow missing bones also cast about the room had to have belonged where the missing pieces were it would have driven all but the strongest into instant retching.

Worst though were the eyes. The Artist behind such vile artwork had pierced the left one with the stem of a black rose which when the person was studied further could be seen to penetrate right through to the protrude out the back of the skull. And the right... Well the less that was focused upon the better.

If the Master responsible were to come upon the hypothetical watcher then and only then would they be able to find out exactly how long life had been sustained in a man who, by scientific convention, should have been dead several times over from blood loss alone. Not to mention some of the things that had been done to the torso let alone the head. They’d only find this out though as a benchmark. For the Artist would be informing them so that they would know how long as a minimum he would intend to keep them alive as he did the same to them.

The ground gave out under her and she screamed.

Only part of her was effected by the trap she had stepped into at first and that was the leg that plunged into the miniature pit trap. A pit trap that caused her to tumble forwards in a one person domino effect.

“SNAKES” Emma screamed and promptly soiled herself.

No one other than Zac knew how phobic she was of snakes, not even her parents. Which meant Sarah’s trap had much greater effect than she had expected in her wildest daydream. The snakes weren’t even dangerous ones for that matter. They were rather young and of a type that had no poison whatsoever. The snakes weren’t dangerous to humans unless they were really large and even then they couldn’t do anything short of constricting at a strength a determined person could break.

However... Emma was beyond reason and even if an angel had told her these facts she wouldn’t have heeded the knowledge. She was stiff as a plank and only barely breathing as she fell face first into the shallow, lightly camouflaged pit trap. She killed one snake by falling on it, which was unfortunate for the poor little creature, but the others managed to get out of the way as she fell before returning to explore this new piece of landscape in their little world.

They slithered all over her and four enterprising little souls managed to even get inside her clothes. Two ended up in the under-top she was wearing and settle just under her breasts. One was about to get into her panties yet thought better of it and instead went on a journey down her leg to personally examine the smoothness of the last wax. While the last went up her back between her long-sleeved thin hoodie – under the jumper – and her under-top in order to nestle in the hood it found.

Wooooooooooooah. Good job, Lock, though as I said, I did laugh at certain parts I know I probably shouldn't've. I love how Selo has an Australian accent now. Also, I'm more forward than I'd give myself credit. And...creepy! You're doing a very good job of keeping this as more than just a horror story. Keep it up!
