Talking about Ryō... I got used to the Japanese "r not r" way back. Actually, from my point of view, the weirdest thing is how English speakers replace plain long vowels (like the Japanese ō) with diphthongs (in this case, "oh" or however you prefer to spell it) without a second thought. Things like this are so relative...

To me, "Ryō" sounds, as presented in Finnish spelling, like something between "ljoo" and "rjoo".

"Ree-oh", then, would come out as something between "rii-ou" and "ri-eu". (With the strange English r, but at least that one is not confusable with l.)
